Emily Majewski March 15th, 2019 SOC215 Chapter Reflection In Racial Formations, legal construction and development are discussed. Racial formation in the United States is discussed in Omi and Winant’s volume. In the chapter practices are drawn upon ideas such as climate, language, temperament, and religion. Racial categories are particularly in North America and the role is to enforce rights, status and citizenship of the U.S legal systems. A buffer is created between the church and the law systems which determines the rights and status. Such differences allows for the discussion between comparative work, migration and observations. All of these allow for doors to open for investigation between nation-building projects as well as various political platforms. In chapter six, colonial legacies of Latin America are discussed as well as their racial formations. Racial democracy and multiculturalism is examined in North America and the nature of race is reflected in these categories....
