Chipotle’s Business Organization

Chipotle Mexican Grill was a concepted dreamed up by entrepreneur Steve Ells. The first location was built and opened in 1993, based out of Denver Colorado. Chipotle specializes in a casual fast paced dining experience, but with quality of food above traditional fast food restaurants in America. Serving traditional Tex-Mex food such as giant burritos, tacos, burrito bowls and a variety of different sides and filling options.

Mission Statement Chipotle has a very simple and short mission statement, “to provide ‘Food with Integrity’”. The simplicity of the statement emphasis’s their point of having food raised without extra preservatives and filler ingredients. The satisfy their mission statement they are committed fully to using ingredients that are fresh and sourced locally or at least if not locally, then produce from ethically clean companies and meat from cruel free vendors. They also provide integrity by fairly pricing their menu items, most other Mexican casual restaurants like Tijuana Flats or Moe’s have prices much higher than Chipotle, and food that is simply not as good. Strategic Goals One of the main strategic goals that Chipotle has in place to further their mission statement and goals, is their strive to create a better world for everyone. Chipotle has numerous resources and they often invest back into the community. By trying to get product made locally from farmers. They also have held and participated in many different fundraising events all over the world in order to try to bring attention to important issues such as social growth as well as environmental concerns and lines themselves with companies fighting to keep the earth in good shape.

SWOT Analysis In looking into Chipotles’ SWOT Analysis, I noticed many different examples for each portion of the analysis. Strength Chipotle uses high quality food; they use only the freshest of ingredients to make their recipes which increases how good their food is over other competitors. They do not have any freezers or microwaves in any of their stores, every ingredient is fresh when made to ensure the customer is always satisfied. Weakness One of the biggest weaknesses that Chipotle faces is their ingredient list. Their top ingredients are all meat such as beef, chicken, and pork. There is a limited number of suppliers they can choose from, and even if they cover all their bases, you still depend on those suppliers following ethical rules. This has led to outbreaks of E. Coli in their stores in the past. Opportunity There are many opportunities that Chipotle has for the future, but the one I think is the best is their chance to expand further throughout the world. As of December of 2018, they only had 37 locations in the international market. (Business Strategy Hub, 2020) They are one of the fastest growing and top selling food companies in America and I think there would be plenty of excitement for Chipotle to open stores in different countries all over the world. Threat Although there are a handful of Tex-Mex options available, besides Taco Bell, Chipotle doesn’t have the most direct competition. I believe the biggest threat to them has been their

Chipotle’s Business Organization issues in the past. They had a lot of customers stop going to them for food after the E. Coli outbreaks in the past.

Organizational Structure The organizational structure that most likely fits for Chipotle would be the functional Structure. The top tier of their chain includes the CEO and the entire board of directors. Underneath them is two separate tiers, one made up of the CFO, legal, marketing and development, each with their own sub departments. And the other containing the HR department as well as the technology officer sector, and the European expansion division. They all have sub departments that interact with the group directly above them in the middle tier. Conclusion After researching into Chipotle a little bit more in depth, I believe that they are one of the better companies out there as far as their reach and their goals for the future of the planet, whether it be the economic and social development of people or the protection and preservation of the environment. They set goals and provide a clear mission and enact policies and practices that allows them to continue to grow their brand and revenue, while still making a positive impact on the world.
