6-2 Journal: Human Resource American Apparel has the capability to be a very successful company. The company's mission of “making quality clothing without relying on cheap labor”(Mehta, 2016, p.2) can be achieved by working towards hiring better employees. The talent that is recruited is important to the success of the company. The company values the fact that their products are made in house but if they were to consider altering their values they will be able to increase the talent within the company. American Apparel should consider attracting younger talent. Having younger employees the company will have the ability to keep up with the constant changes in the fashion industry and technology. It is important for the company to understand what the customers want and be willing to adapt to changes going on all the time. Attracting the talent for a clothing company is not very difficult. The best way for American Apparel to attract the talent to achieve their goals of bettering their company is through the use of social media. In today's world many have turned to online shopping and social media to determine the style of clothing is popular. The best way to pick the candidates that want to work for the company is to ask them questions such as, “why are they a good fit for American Apparel?” or “What do you think the company could benefit from having more of?”. There are many ways to make sure they attract the right talent and pick the perfect employees. Retaining the talent is a struggle within the fashion industry. Some ideas that American Apparel can do to retain their talent is by having an outline of the ways each person is important to the company. Another thing that can help with retention is the presence of the store. If they have more of an upbeat friendly environment to work in more employees will stay and they also have the ability to increase their customers. Along with keeping their talent they will need to motivate those employees and customers. There are many ways to motivate employees and customers. Some of

the best ways to motivate employees is having different challenges for them to achieve. If there is a goal to be met and they are rewarded for meeting that goal employees will be more inclined to work harder. Another way to motivate the employees could be through learning their career goals. Having a management team that knows where their employees' career goals are can use that as an advantage to direct them into the right area of work. Lastly, the best way to develop their goals is to stay connected. American Apparel needs to make sure they develop their social media platform. If they keep up with the trends and ideas constantly coming out they have high potential to increase their success.
