6-2 Chain of Inquiry 1. How does social science inquiry advance and evolve over time? Social Science advances and evolves by studying human behavior, knowledge, and societies over time. As humanity evolves, Social Science is evolving too through their methods and careers. It is also advancing through studying and learning about bias and stereotypes. Studying through multicultural diversity, governments, globalization, ethical disciplines, and social responsibilities are also advancing the Social Sciences in understanding human behavior. 2. Why is it important that our understanding of social science concepts continue to develop and expand? Social Scientists strive to improve the quality of life and move upward in a spiral of knowledge through asking Social Scientific questions instead of seeking only answers. When an answer is discovered, they are using those answers to ask more questions, which is how they move in a never-ending upward spiral of knowledge to expand and develop more knowledge. This is important because humanity evolves, therefore, Social Science evolves too since, Social Science is the study of human behavior and society. Social Science concepts continually expanding are also important because the advancement of new discoveries and information are constantly changing just like humanity. 3. Then, consider the question you posed in the observation journal, which you submitted in Theme 2. How could others build upon this question through additional research or follow-up questions? A question from My Observational Journal is: The message the woman is saying during the salon ad about breast cancer. I would like to ask, how does mental health decline during breast cancer treatment? If I was building upon this question as a Social Scientist, I might ask if it is beneficial or not for breast cancer patients to take an antidepressant if the mental

health is declining? What other ways can we help breast cancer patients feel positive while going through treatment? I would also like to build upon my study by seeking information on if support from family and friends helps with mental health or even their survival chances. I would also build upon seeking other helpful ways to improve a cancer patient’s chance of survival and how the process affects family members of breast cancer patients....
