Adoption and development What is the adopted child syndrome? What are some developmental issues that can occur when a child is either adopted at birth or placed in foster care after they are born? Do you believe this issue with development can be avoided, or treated at a point later in life/? Adopted child syndrome is generally used to describe a condition resulting from various psychological and emotional hardships experienced by an adopted child. Characteristics such as attachment disorders and deviant behavior are associated with lying, stealing, inability to accept authority, and violence. Children cannot be sufficiently expressive to share their trauma with their foster parents, so parents need to look for behavioral problems. According to a study, adopted children are more likely than other children to contract mental health problems. I believe that this syndrome can be treated or avoided. Foster parents have to put in extra effort to help them settle down in a new atmosphere of caring and love for foster parents....
