According to the narrator, Blue was similar to humans by saying they were completed creations and can communicate well. Just in their own way. We humans just fail to realize that. 2.) Explain how Walker uses a number of analogies to establish this similarity. Choose one of these analogies and evaluate its effectiveness. Walker uses a number of analogies such as slavery and whites, the thousands of men who would marry Japanese, Korean, Filipina women, etc. The slavery analogy is very effective as it describes the truth of how we have forgotten that animals can communicate well. The use of slavery as an analogy is extremely effective due to the fact that racism is still a modern problem! Nothing has changed. 3.) What is the thematic significance of the title, “Am I Blue”? The thematic significance of the title is that the title relates the author's personal feelings of sadness to the emotions the horse is feeling. The author is basically asking herself, is she sad? And is she sad like Blue? 4.) The theme of possible salvation runs through many of the stories in the course and in the short story unit. Consider how Blue’s isolation is overcome, at least for a time. Blue’s isolation is overcome when another horse is brought to mate with Blue to have a baby so the farmer can have more horses. At the time Blue was happy with this and had a source of “independence” in his eyes. He was happy to make a new friend and was enjoying the “itness”....
