Description

Walker 1 Amari Walker Mrs. Twiss English 11 10 October 2021 Defining My American Dream What is your American dream defined by? Is your American dream defined by finding a career that will help you thrive and prosper, like mine? I want to pursue a career that is “hands-on and practical, one where I can use my basic skills and problem solving methods to order and arrange things” (the National Center for O*NET Development 1). I’d like to have the opportunity to operate and configure different types of technology. My career choice is centered around videography. To be successful in this career, I will follow specific steps and requirements, and research the demand for and earning potential of this career. Proficiency in this profession will require execution of the proper steps to help me adapt to the surroundings of this career. My first step toward a career in videography is to pursue an education in videography. I will Identify the industry I want to work in and “then evaluate the educational requirements employers want to see within that industry” (Indeed Editorial Team 1). My second step is to become an intern or apprentice so that I can gain the hands-on computer skills and experience needed in the field. The last step in becoming a videographer is to build a “portfolio tailored to fit my desired job as a videographer” (Indeed Editorial Team 1). This portfolio will “show potential clients and employers what I have to offer” as well as my skills in creativity (Indeed Editorial Team 1). These specific steps and requirements are key components to help swing me in the right direction toward this career path so that I can succeed.

Knowing the demand and market is also very important if I want to be successful in the career of videography. Salary and the opportunities for advancement are important when considering a career in this field. Job outlook for camera operators and videographers is quite amicable because of the growth in the industry. According to Indeed Editorial Team, content for social media channels are in high demand. The likelihood is high for new jobs in the future in this industry. The intended earnings for this career is around “$30.74 per hour or a salary of $63,930” (the National Center for O*NET Development 1). “Experienced videographers with creativity and leadership skills advance to overseeing their own projects” (Raise Labs, Inc 1). This makes a career in videography so “flexible because it allows you to work as a freelancer or for an organization” (Indeed Editorial Team 1). Market for this career is at its pinnacle, enhancing my desire to take part in achieving this career. To build a foundation for my career, I will need to consider my personal qualities, and the level of preparation I will need to become a videographer. I am very interested in this type of work and feel I have great qualities that perfectly suit a successful career in videography. I have good problem solving skills and pay close attention to detail; I am also flexible and dependable. So far, I haven't begun preparing my career path, but I will take action during the second semester of my junior year. I will be taking a Foundation in Videography course. In addition, I will need to take “individual courses related to filming that prepare me well for a career as a videographer” (Indeed Editorial Team 1).
