What Really is the American Dream?

Over the years, people have questioned what the American Dream meant and if they lived that life. The American Dream is different for everyone and no one has the same life and dream. For some people, the American Dream is having freedom and be secure. Others may define the American Dream as achieving the best they can and becoming the best. Each person, in the United States, are not the same and don't dream the same. The American Dream can be interpreted many different ways. According to Merriam-Webster, it defined the American Dream as "a happy way of living that is thought of by many Americans as something that can be achieved by anyone in the United States especially by working hard and becoming successful." This means that many Americans desire and work to be able to be where they want in life. They believe that hard work pays off. Their American Dream most likely consists of driving a spectacular car, living in a colossal house with their husband or wife and kids and working for an incredible job. Other people may view their American Dream as making a living that will lead them to a better life, living in an average-sized house with his or her family. Some Americans dream to become educated and become experts in their field of study. Overall, the American Dream consists of Americans being happy with their lives and being able to live in happiness.

Many Americans define the American Dream as to having freedom and democracy. According to Dictionary.com, the American Dream is defined as “the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American." This mean that the American Dream for those Americans everyone having the same opportunity as everyone else. Americans should be able to practice their rights as they please as long as no one is harmed. The government was considering taking away the Net Neutrality Act, which gave citizens the right to use the internet however they want as long as there was no harm. By taking away the Net Neutrality Act, the government is limiting and close to taking away the one part of the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights. The internet allows Americans to share their thought and express themselves and practice their freedom of speech. The American Dream is being able to live in America with no complications and no fear. Immigrants that come the United States come to live their American Dream and hope for a better life. Since DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, was taken way and in the progress of demolishing completely, some of the immigrants that came to the United States are in risk of being deported. When DACA was established, immigrants felt relieved and felt like they had a chance to live their American Dream. They now live in fear of being deported back to their country where there wasn't as many opportunities like in the United States. My definition of the American Dream is that everything happens for a reason. If a situation presents itself and it affects my life, I can only dream that it works out in the long term. I dream that I can go to my dream school, which is Georgia State University, work at Buzzfeed as a creative editor, and live in an apartment with my cat. Later down the road, I dream to meet a man that becomes my husband and the father of our kids. I dream of the day where I can lay back in my rocking chair when I'm old and say, "I've done everything I can and I lived my dream. I'm free." I dream of the day of where I can be absolutely happy and content with my life. Overall, the real meaning of the American Dream is to be free and have freedom. The dream is to live a stable life. The dream is to get an education and become successful. The dream is to being able to live in a place where there are many opportunities. Everyone has their own definition of the American

Dream. Some are similar and some are completely different. Everyone who work hard deserve to live their American Dream.
