Topic: Amazon Laws and Ethics Amazon.com is a company which for a while has been known for its world-wide collection of books thus becoming the biggest bookstore in the world. However with time Amazon has evolved to become a store that deals with everything there is in the world. Amazon through its website it deals with books, clothing, office products, home furnishings, media equipment among other many items which are ordered and delivered on daily basis. Amazon Company also provides cloud services through the Amazon Web Services. The Amazon company mission constitutes of four principles which include a passion for invention of more valuable commodities, focusing on customer satisfaction instead of the competitive aspect of companies, ensuring excellence in its operations through commitment and then a long-term of future thinking. Every company comprises of a code of ethics which define how the staff will behave and conduct their activities. In Amazon employees ought to always behave ethically, at lawfully and do whatever is in the best interest for the company ("Code of Business Conduct and Ethics | Amazon.com, Inc. - IR", 2019). There are different ethics which have to be kept if success of the company is to be realized. There are many ethics recorded in the Amazon code of ethics which include discrimination and harassment which stipulates that the company does provide opportunities equal to all irrespective of the background and offer service to all without harassment. This is a key ethic as it establishes good relations not only among employees but also with their customers and this ensures a growing market. Another guideline is on bribery which states that employees of the Amazon company shall not give bribes for whichever reason to anyone whether government personnel of even private sector officials (Kelchner, 2017). No giving out gifts or payments to any government official s in order to retain or obtain a business. This aspect ensures integrity within the company. In addition, the policy involving conflicts of interest state that while the employees are performing their duties, they should accord their judgment in all ways and every time in the best interest for the company. Furthermore, price fixing is an ethic which Amazon embraces since it stipulates that employees shall not discuss about the prices or even make any deals with competitors concerning business terms, prices, market segments or even discounts. Amazon as big as it is, it has many employees which have had different experience in working for Amazon. In Amazon employees are always being encouraged to think big, be innovative and showcase commitment in their duties ("Amazon.com, Inc. | Company Profile | Vault.com", 2019). The employees experience a friendly management team with whom they interact and get motivations to work smarter and achieve the best there is. However, the working environment can be sometimes stressful with everyone doing whatever it takes to get to the top. It is a very busy environment with many employees driven by the desire to get to the top and therefore step on whoever and whatever they can to achieve that. This means however much we expect the best, sometimes the employees get stressed due to the kind of operations within the company. The Amazon Company is very conservative of the environment and has had programs which aim at preserving the environment. Moreover, the company is very customer friendly with a slogan that every customer should be treated as a friend and therefore given the best service available. Besides, Amazon

at different times of the year gives out offers for free shipping of goods purchased and also free shipping on bulky purchases. Despite the fact that not all deliveries are made on time, Amazon has been known for a greater percentage in its delivery and this encourages customers and makes them want more of these services. For a company to continue with its operation smoothly there are laws that govern these operations. Employees’ laws stipulate that no children can be employed as it will be a form of child labor and among the employees discrimination n based on background is not tolerated. Again, there are contract laws which stipulate that employees are work have to agree with the terms and conditions of the company if they are to work there. Also, in Amazon the liability laws which ensure employees are answerable and responsible for whatever service they provide to customers. Above all the copyright law has enabled the company to deal with original goods from suppliers as they comply with federal and local laws. These laws among others help keep the company in operation and success is inevitable. In conclusion, the ethics stipulated by the Amazon Company have been adhered to by the employees and this is reflected by the continued operation and success of the company. The laws have governed the company’s operations and it has made sure to adhere to the laws. A law such as the copyright law has ensured originality of the commodities sold to customers and therefore the market has grown. However there is no perfect company and therefore Amazon has faced several lawsuits such as discrimination of pregnant employees. The company has also faced class action lawsuit where there was allegations that the company sold securities at inflated price to plaintiffs. Finally, Amazon has had successful operations over the recent years and its market has grown widely and this has been attributed to the laws and ethics of the company.
