Description

AMB201 Marketing & Audience Analytics Qualitative Participation and Reflection Guide (Part 1) Note: The content below is the same for the Qualitative and Quantitative Projects Rationale Being a good researcher involves having an ability to take the research participant perspective. By understanding how participants perceive questions or tasks posed in a study, researchers can design projects that are participant-friendly, and where questions/tasks are less likely to be misinterpreted. For this reason, in AMB201 you have the opportunity to take part in, and reflect upon, real research projects currently being run within the business school as a participant. Some studies have also been designed as demonstrative for AMB201 learning experience. For AMB201 you have the opportunity to take part in two studies, which will allow you to compare approaches. Choosing a Study To take part, log-in to the SONA research system (https://qutbusiness.sona-systems.com) using the log-in details emailed to you in Week 1. Select and take part in a study that interests you. It can be a valuable learning experience to choose a study methodology outside of your past experience (if one is available), however the choice is entirely yours. Sessions run at a variety of times, and some are doable online. Sessions usually take about 20-30 minutes. Participation Information Some projects may lead to significant publishable findings, so by participating you will be assisting researchers within the business school, and may also be helping to advance knowledge. Of course, if a project is published (e.g., in an academic journal), you will never be identified (participant data is nonidentifiable). Projects are only accepted for AMB201 where there is learning value for students and where researchers obtain informed consent. If you register for a session, please ensure you do attend (and arrive on time), so that researchers remain willing to make their studies available to AMB201. You are of course always free to withdraw from any research project if you feel uncomfortable with it. Non-Participation Alternative If you are unable or unwilling to participate in research, a comparable alternative can be requested. This will involve reading, and undertaking a critical review of an approved research article from an academic journal, and writing a reflection based on that. Please contact the unit coordinator by the end of Week 3 if this applies to you.

Participation Reflection Reflecting on your participation experience for AMB201 will involve thinking about your experience, and elaborating on how this might inform what you do when you undertake your own research. You should aim to give insight, rather than just describe the process. Please keep your reflection relatively brief – you should write one-page only. There is no need to reference this reflection, and writing in first-person is fine. Your reflection should be included in your written project report. As part of your reflection, you might like to consider: -

Why you selected particular studies and what was involved in participating;

-

How the approaches compared across the studies you chose and what insights you gained;

-

How you might use this experience to inform your own research;

-

Whether you feel it is valuable for researchers to also take part in research as a participant....
