Using AI to Overcome Human Limitation: An Annotated Bibliography

Grebert-Craig, Brooke. “Artificial Intelligence: The Advantages and Disadvantages of AI.” The New Daily, 10 May 2018, thenewdaily.com.au/life/tech/2018/05/10/artificial-intelligence-ai/. Brooke Grebert-Craig, a freelance journalist with a B.A. Journalism from Swinburne University of Technology in 2017. Based in Melbourne, AU, she has interned for The Herald Sun and Weekly Times, also writing for two of their lifestyle publications, The House of Wellness and the Home Edition. She has written news and reviews, and been featured in The Burn, The Swim Standard, and Husskie Press. Since graduating she got a part-time job at The New Daily as a Digital Producer and SEO Reporter. (Brooke Grebert-Craig, 2018) For a different take on AI, look at Ben Goertzel’s “From Here to Human-Level Artificial General Intelligence in Four (Not All That) Simple Steps.” He talks about the necessary steps in science for AI to reach the level every science fiction writer and now AI scientist hopes to achieve. Fekety, Mike. “Pros and Cons of Artificial Intelligence.” LinkedIn, www.linkedin.com/pulse/proscons-artificial-intelligence-mike-fekety. Mike Fekety, a senior sales leader with in-depth hardware/software technical knowledge of wireless, wireline, handset GPS, and IP Multi-Media Subsystems, along with the analysis of data and “virtualization” of solutions towards “Software As A Service.” He has 3 degrees listed on LinkedIn; AT&T School of Business (in affiliation with Wharton), University of Michigan with a M.S. Systems Engineering with a 3.3 GPA, and Illinois Institute of Technology with a M.S. in Computer Science with a 3.5 GPA. (Fekety, 2018) An article with a different take is a Forbes article titled “The Pros and Cons of Artificial Intelligence”. Written by Peter Lyon, he focuses more on the vehicle side of AI and how selfdriving cars can be effect but also dangerous in the bigger cities of the world. Goertzel, Ben. “From Here to Human-Level Artificial General Intelligence in Four (Not All That) Simple Steps.” Singularity Hub, 21 July 2018, singularityhub.com/2018/07/22/from-here-tohuman-level-artificial-general-intelligence-in-four-not-all-that-simplesteps/#sm.00015mpvp0sizfi9y6s2a4cwbud19. Ben Goertzel, a leading AI researcher and advocate, based out of a village in the New Territories of Hong Kong. He is the founder and CEO of SingularityNET, a blockchain-based AI marketplace, the chief scientist of a financial predictions firm, Aidyia Holdings and a robotics firm, Hanson Robotics, chairman of the AI software company, Novamente LLC, research professor in the Fujian Key Lab for Brain-Like Intelligent Systems at Xiamen University of Technology. The list goes on an on about his firm foundation in the AI community. He graduated from Bard College at Simon’s Rock with a B.S. of Quantitative Studies, after leaving high school

(Goertzel, 2015) In my opinion Ben Goertzel is the leading pioneer for futuristic, human-level AI. His list of achievements and the work he does is unmatchable for this field. If an article goes against what he says, I would deem it not feasible and would disregard it for my future research and not use that author’s or publisher’s work. Li, Abner. “Google’s Speech Recognition Is Now Almost as Accurate as Humans.” Google, Google, 1 June 2017, 9to5google.com/2017/06/01/google-speech-recognition-humans/. Abner Li, a resident of Los Angeles, has 6 years experience in writing for online publications. He currently writes articles for 9to5google.com. His main two writing focuses are Google and Android. His articles lean towards the AI interfaces Google and Android offer their client base. Android needing to be on the cutting edge of everything to compete with the likes of Apple’s iPhone. Google makes new advances for AI speech recognition and has little to no competition in that area. For a different take one could look at Luke Dormehl’s article “Apple finally proves it’s serious about AI” to gage the competitions AI advancements. He discusses the advancements with Siri and what all that technology offers users, along with Apple’s Augmented Reality using AI to product items in the camera that aren’t there in real life.
