OL 215Final Project 1: Application of the Fundamental Principles of Management for a Successful Company: Apple Inc. SOUTHEN NEW HAMPSHIRE UNIVERSITY DANIEL CALANA

A company becomes successful based on how it is managed. Management is an essential foundation to the overall success of a company. Management is one of the critical factors of why many employees stay with a company to create and invest in their careers with the exceptional company when it comes to management and leadership. The perfect example of this type of management and leadership success within a company is Apple Inc. Tim Cook, the current CEO, has led this company right to include his predecessors. Apple utilizes the P-O-L-C framework to ensure that Apple and its dedicated employees always stay ahead of the game and will always be successful. The framework, which consists of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, is essential to achieving Apple's mission. There is one fascinating aspect in the framework that Apple utilizes, which is planning; they use this factor when it comes to unveiling and selling their newest product models. One example is that they always planned and always organized to release their latest iPhone line during September. They have been consistently giving consumers time to plan when they will be upgrading their cellphones. This is an exceptional use when referencing the planning and organizing aspect of the framework. Another example of how they utilize the framework is controlling the prices when a new design or product is unveiled. Apple withholds the upper hand in this situation. They control the prices of the previous models, which can favor and intrigue the consumer who is not worried about having the newest product or not in their budget. Tim Cook and Apple's brain Steve Jobs have paved the way for this company to succeed and stay successful for a very long time.

Mission and Vision

Apple Inc. was founded in April 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne. Apple today is one of the most successful companies in the world. Apple sells iPhones, iPods, Mac computers, Apple Watch and Apple TV. This company also offers software applications such as

iPhone OS and iCloud. They also offer Apple Pay. The company's mission is "to bringing the best user experience to its customers through its innovative hardware, software, and services." Their vision statement, "We believe that we are on the face of the earth to make great products, and that is not changing, follows the idea of their mission statement. They strive to make the best products and to keep them that way. Apple can demonstrate and convey the importance of its mission and vision statement to its stakeholders and employees by emphasizing it in its annual report each year. This report allows the company to communicate its mission and vision statement and its reports for the year. This is how the company relays its information to its stockholders and keeps them up to date with the company's progress.

Strategic Management Plan Apple uses broad differentiation as its strategy. The company will focus on features such as sleek design and user-friendliness of products to separate Apple and its technology from its competition. The Company pivots on innovation and aspires for the employees to be innovative when designing and manufacturing their products. There are some head management decisions the company has implemented to make them so successful, such as putting their exceptional employees on their most significant projects. They feel that their newest and unique products deserve the best Apple has to offer to create the best product; they make this happen by even removing engineers from other projects if it comes down to it. A few other strategies they like to use are keeping everything confidential, and they want to assure themselves that none of their secrets get out, especially when it comes to new products (Yarrow, 2012) Organizational Culture.

Apple's culture has always maintained an exceptional level of innovation and creativity that challenges and changes the industry standards. The company focuses on its top-notch employees to strive for excellence and go above and beyond. Steve Jobs was famous for terminating employees who would not meet his expectations and was then on by Tim Cooke after the death of Steve Jobs. Apple encourages its employees to get creative with their knowledge, abilities, and skills. Apple asks for their employees to be innovative when it comes to product development and work performance which touches at the heart of Apple's pivotal vision and mission statements.

Decision Making At Apple, there is a ray of decisions to be made, whether it be scheduling or the design of a new product and how that product will be launched and marketed. We sometimes do not think, but even the store's design is a decision-making factor Apple has to make. Apple shops are staffed by skilled individuals who help customers get and enjoy Apple's experience. Apple shops also provide their customers with an opportunity to choose between different products and services" (Janko, 2012). The factors that come to play when we are talking about decisionmaking are sometimes like maybe the location on where to put a store and layout and design of the store. Therefore, an apple store is very spacious with little décor to emphasize and draw attention to the products themselves.

Principles Of Ethics

According to Apple, four paramount principles supply integrity: honesty, respect, confidentiality, and compliance. To completely detail these principles, Apple has drafted a code of business conduct that applies to all its operations, including those overseas. Apple makes each of its suppliers sign its "Supplier Code of Conduct" and performs factory audits to ensure compliance. A couple of the standards they have on file are anti-discrimination at work, Antiharassment and abuse, Student worker protections, and a section on working hours. The working hours' section states that the workweek shall be restricted to 60 hours in the week, including overtime. There is also a section on health and safety permits which states, "supplier shall obtain, keep current, and comply with all required health and safety permits." (Apple 2021).

Human Resources The Apple company focuses on securing only the best and talented engineers and developers for the company. Apple does not spend much time training and developing employees. They make them figure it out and begin creating and innovating and letting the ideas start to come alive. Training is available, but Apple does not give or create a learning plan for the employees. Apple reinforces the employees to have self-reliant solid and develop their skills on their own. When they have a new project, they must help on it will all be creative and innovative and will not be repetitive. Conclusion: Principles of Management With all the success of the Apple company, Apple has stuck with the fundamental principles of management. They have been able to use the principles of management tools to keep their employees innovative and exceed all expectations regarding performance. Apple's mission and

vision statement has altered a few times; However, Apple, following their statements, has accepted the company to practice and stay with the principles of management. Apple uses planning to keep their projects on track even when Steve Jobs passed. The team utilizes organizing to focus on important projects, whether pulling someone to complete a different project. They use leadership to keep projects on schedule and secrets to protect their IP and valuable designs and innovations.

Conclusion: Interrelated System Apple's decision-making is looked over by their board and CEO and going by a plan made by Steve Jobs. Though they follow the plan of one man, the final decision is not made by only one person. When a new project comes up, it must go through a series of approvals before ever having the chance to be implemented. This will even include a plan for a project to be created and approved first, including the design, engineering, manufacturing, and release date. This is all defined and bestowed upon the board before any work can be done on a project. With this, Apple also encourages its employees to be innovative through all these processes. This allows them to make the necessary changes to provide the most exceptional product apple has to offer.
