The Organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.” Why do we need a Church on the earth today? 1. To preach the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ and administer the ordinances of salvation, 2. To bring people to Christ, 3. To place the promise of redemption is within reach, 4. To create a community of Saints that will sustain one another in the “strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life.” 5. For the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 6. To meet together, to fast and to pray, and to speak one with another concerning the welfare of their souls, 7. To hear the word of the Lord.

Sketch an outline on the back of this paper of the priesthood organizational structure of the church today from the prophet and First Presidency down to you. What is the difference between the Church of Jesus Christ and the Gospel of Jesus Christ? (see for answers Elder Hallstrom, April 2012) How do they relate or interact with one another? The terms gospel and Church are not the same but are interconnected, and we need both. The gospel is the glorious plan of God in which we, as His children, are given the opportunity to receive all that the he has. This is called eternal life and is described as “the greatest of all the gifts of God.” Whereas, The Church was established by Jesus Christ during His earthly ministry, “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets.” Jesus Christ was and is the head of His Church, represented on earth by prophets holding apostolic authority. Gospel and the church have to different meanings but The purpose of the Church is to help us live the gospel.
