We believe the Bible to be the word of God, as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. What is scripture? Scripture is a collection of divine revelations given by the Lord to His prophets for the edification of mankind. What is the Holy Bible? The Bible is the word of God. It is a witness for God and Jesus Christ. The Bible is a collection of sacred writings containing many of God's revelations. What is the Old Testament? Old Testament is writings of ancient prophets who acted under the influence of the Holy Spirit and who over many centuries testified of Christ and His future ministry and about history of Abraham and his descendants. What is the New Testament? New Testament is the collection of inspired writings (originally in Greek) about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, the Apostles, and other followers of Jesus Christ. The New Testament is commonly divided into the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, Paul’s epistles, the general epistles, and the book of Revelation. What is the Book of Mormon? The Book of Mormon is another witness of Jesus Christ and confirms the truths found in the Holy Bible. Far from undermining the Bible, the Book of Mormon supports its testimony of Jesus Christ. What is the Doctrine & Covenants? The Doctrine and Covenants is a book of scripture containing revelations from the Lord to the Prophet Joseph Smith and to a few other latter-day prophets. It is unique in scripture because it is not a translation of ancient documents. What is the Pearl of Great Price? The Pearl of Great Price is also the name given to one of four volumes of scripture called the “standard works” of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Why do Latter-day Saints refer to these scriptures as the Standard Works? Smith described "standard works" as the scriptures and other works published by the Church that illustrate "the principles of life and salvation made known in the gospel of Jesus Christ" (JD 17:161). The phrase "standard works" refers to scriptures because standard is a rule for measuring or a model to be followed. The scriptures contain the doctrine and principles that serve as the rules and models by which Latter-day Saints are to live.
