Interpersonal Conflict

2 Interpersonal Conflict In Television

Interpersonal communication is “ A unique type of communication that involves two individual interacting via face-to-face of mediated channels”(). Everyone has conflict from time to time, but there are ways to go about these conflicts and there was a way Dre from hit tv show “Black-ish” could have went about talking to his kids teacher. In the Episode called “ Black History Month” the kids brought there black history projects home. When they brought their projects home they just threw them in the trash because they didn’t think the projects were important enough to keep. There dad by the name of Dre got upset because black history is very important to them and he didn’t think his kids appreciated black history like they should. The kids thought of black history month as just another month and like it was nothing really special. So there dad took it upon himself to go to the kids school, and busted in the teachers class room without emailing. The teacher had told him previously that he had to email before showing up. Dre started yelling at the kids teacher telling her that she wasn’t doing her job and they she needed to start doing her job. He also told her that he is paying her to teach their kids and not to just blow off black history month like it’s not important. Dre felt that there teacher wasn’t making black history important. Their teacher had made black history important as much as she could, but Dre didn’t think their teacher made it important enough. I believe the conflict that had happened between Dre and the kids teacher was “Misperceptions”. Misperception is when the receiver takes what the other person is trying to say and doesn’t understand the way the other person intended. The way I think Dre should have handled the situation was actually sitting down with the kids teacher and actually getting an understanding of how she was handing black history month and what she had done with the kids throughout the month. If he didn’t agree with what the teacher had done he could have gave her

suggestions on what she could have done differently. The teacher could have took those ideas into consideration and used them next year. Lastly, the strategy Dre could have used according to (Bevan & Sole, 2014) is “ Try to use positive maintenance behaviors, which enhance relationship satisfaction, liking, and control mutuality, rather than negative maintenance behaviors, which can damage the very relationship that you are trying to preserve”. If Dre would have used these strategies the whole situation could have went some much better and him and the teacher could have resolved the issue the correct way. Everyone has conflict issues, but there are always ways to avoid those big arguments and big conflicts before they even getting that serious. If you just use the right strategies you can avoid all the conflict. Everything starts with the right COMMUNICATION.
