1. Describe the four main employer responsibilities under the HazCom standard. a) Identify and list hazardous chemicals in their workplaces. b) Obtain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) and labels for each hazardous chemical, if not provided by the manufacturer, importer, or distributor. c) Implement a written HazCom program, including labels, MSDSs, and employee training. d) Communicate hazard information to employees through labels, MSDSs, and formal training programs.

2. Discuss in detail at least 3 components of an appropriate HazCom program, including requirements to provide specific information. Training is required for all employees that will be exposed to hazardous chemicals. The training requirements include at the time of the initial assignments and whenever a new hazard is introduced. There needs to be a list of hazardous chemicals and these chemicals need to be labeled appropriately. This includes the chemical identity, appropriate hazard warnings, and the name and address of the responsible party. Material safety data sheets are required. These sheets are prepared by the manufactured or importer and must include the physical hazards, health hazards, routes of exposure, proper handling and use of chemical, emergency and first-aid procedures, proper control measures, and these sheets must be in English. They also need to be accessible to all employees in the work area in case of an accident.

3 . Discuss the differences between HazCom labeling requirements for a commercially procured chemical in its original packaging or container, and other workplace chemical containers such as stationary containers, portable containers, and piping systems. HazCom labeling requirements must include the name and address of the responsible party, appropriate hazard warnings, and it needs the identity of the chemical. For other workplace chemical containers they can use any type of hazard warning. That warning can be a picture, message, or symbol that provides the hazard information.
