Expected Pharmacological Action management of hypertension, management of angina pectoris, prevention of MI
Therapeutic Use blocks stimulation of beta(myocardial) adrenergic receptors. does not usually affect beta2 (pulmonary vascular, uterine) receptor sites. Decreases BP and HR. decreased frequency of attacks of anginal pain.
Complications bradycardia, decreased cardiac output, AV block, Orthostatic hypotension, rebound mycocardiym excitation
Medication Administration Administer meds via PO/IV take meds with food to increase absorption. PO meds QD-BID, modify doses for renal impairments. Tablets are 25mg, 50mg, 100mg

general anesthesia, IV phenytonin, verapamil, antihypertensives, alcohol , nitrates, phenlephrine, peudoephedrine, thryroid medications, doapamine, dobutamine, MAO inhibitors, Client Education Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness Decrease in BP, reducation in frequency of angina, increase in activity tolerance, prevention of MI.
