Medication Administration The oral dose usually ranges from 1mg to 6 mg. The dose of the injection usually ranges from 12.5 mg to 50 mg.
Contraindications/Precautions heart disease, high blood pressure, or a heart attack; Parkinson's disease; trouble swallowing;low white blood cell (WBC) counts; diabetes (or risk factors such as obesity or family history of diabetes); liver or kidney disease; There is a higher chance of death in older adults who take this drug for mental problems caused by dementia.
Interactions allergy to paliperidone, Topamax, Cipro, Plavix
Nursing Interventions monitor diabetics for loss of glycemic control,closely monitor neurologic status of older adults, monitor closely those at risk for seizures, do not engage in potentially hazardous activities until the response to drug is known, wear sunscreen and protective clothing to avoid photosensitivity.
Client Education Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness patient will demonstrate a reduction or elimination of psychotic symptoms in schizophrenia and related psychoses

Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how this medicine will affect you. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, especially in hot weather and during exercise. Schizophrenia requires long-term treatment. Do not stop taking risperidone, even when you feel better.
