Description

Badminton Lesson Plan Name: Cameron Haney Date: November 7th, 2021 Title of Activity: Badminton Location: Lopes Performance Center Lesson Goal: Students will be able to develop and perform the skills and movements involved with playing the game of badminton. They will also be familiar with offensive and defensive strategies as well as the rules of the game. Objectives: 1. Students will be able to perform a serve correctly and according to the rules of the game of badminton. 2. Students will be able to perform the different strokes involve with hitting and returning the birdie such as overhand forehand, overhand backhand, underarm forehand, and underarm backhand. 3. Students will be able to properly play the game of badminton following all rules and regulations and rallying to score using the strokes and serves they learned. Equipment: 10 badminton racquets, 12 birdies, badminton net, water, appropriate lines, a whistle, and a timer. Safety concerns: -Come to class in movable, comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes.

-Follow and listen all instruction provided by the instructor to avoid potential accidents. -Pay attention when moving around the courts in order to avoid injury or collisions. -Follow emergency/evacuation procedures when necessary (students learned the procedures at the beginning of the class) - Follow first aid procedures when necessary (students learned the procedures at the beginning of the class). Lesson Outline (60 minutes): 8:25-8:27 AM- Attendance 8:27-8:30 AM- Lesson Goal, Preliminary Rules, and Safety Suggestions 

Teacher will verbally explain to the class the lesson goal -The goal of the lesson is to help students develop a firm understanding of chipping skills. Later in the unit, the student will be able to apply this knowledge during chipping game play.



The teacher will verbally explain to the students the preliminary rules and review the safety procedures -The teacher will check for safety understanding by having the students give a thumbs up if they understand the first aid and emergency/evacuation procedures.

8:30-8:35- Warm up 

Students will be split up into four groups to perform Stations workout. The students will perform each exercise for one minute then rotate until entire activity is complete.

-These exercises would have been introduced prior to this lesson, but ask the students if any exercises need to be reviewed. -Examine performance and technique and provide positive, constructive feedback and praise. 8:35-8:36 AM- Students will be instructed to take a water break then partner up, grab one birdie and two racquets for set of partners, then line up single file on the sideline with partner before beginning drills.

8:36- 8:43 AM- Serving Drill 

The teacher will instructor the students on how to properly execute the serve in a game of badminton o

Correct hand and foot placement is key as well and hand eye coordination.

o Instructor will perform three serves before students begin. 

Students will take turns serving and retrieving the birdies to get a comfortable feel for the serve as well as the rules along with where to serve.

8:43-8:44 AM- Students will be instructed to take a water break and return to single file partner formation for instruction. 8:44-8:51 AM- Strokes Drill 

The teacher reviews the different types of strokes and when to use them o These strokes include overhand forehand, overhand backhand, underarm forehand, and underarm backhand. o Instructor will demonstrate each stroke once then students will begin.



Students will take turns practicing each stroke type to their partners and returning them to each other correctly and legally according to the rules.

8:51-8:52 AM- Students will be instructed to take a water break and return to single file partner formation for instruction. 8:52-8:59 AM- Offensive and Defensive Strategies Drill 

The teacher will show examples of game like strategies to implement to score and defend at a high level.



Students will go over with each other the correct times and ways to implement them in their gameplay to achieve the desired results.

8:59-9:00 AM- Students will be instructed to take a water break then gather around the instructor to listen to the game play instructions. 9:00-9:15 AM- Game Play 

Students will be split up into two teams and split onto opposite sides of the net.



They will play badminton as large teams on a larger surface court than normal to get the idea of gameplay and practice the strategies they have learned.



The instructor will keep track of points throughout the game making sure to call faults if the rules are not followed.

9:15-9:16 AM- Students will be instructed to take a water break then circle up for cool down. 9:16-9:22 AM- Cool Down 

The students will perform each stretching exercise led by the instructor until the entire warm up is complete. -Right arm across the body -Left arm across the body

-Right triceps stretch -Left triceps stretch -Hamstrings stretch (right, left, and middle) -Lying trunk twists -Butterflies 9:22-9:25- The instructor will explain the goals for the next day while the students pack up then students will be dismissed....
