Daniece Wade 3/5/19 Dr. Bohl Etiquette Dinner Tonight I attended a Business Etiquette Dinner hosted by the IUP Career Program Development Center. Overall, it was a very enriching experience. At the beginning of the event, I signed in using my I-card and then was given a name tag that had my table number for the seat I was placed at. However, before everyone could sit down we were encouraged to network with other students and hosts at the event. I found this part of the evening extremely beneficial because I was able to practice speaking and introducing myself to others in a business setting. I believe that this skill will allow me to build my connections, and will provide me with invaluable opportunities to prepare for my career goals in the future. After networking we were seated for the dinning portion of the event. This part of the evening included a presentation on proper manners to display while at a formal dinner event. The speaker would present some helpful advice, and afterward all participants were encouraged to practice the advice mentioned prior. I found this part of the evening to be helpful because it allowed me to not only practice dinning in a business setting, but I also learned a lot of importance tips about business etiquette that I had not known before. Some tips mentioned that I found really useful, were things such as following your host’s lead by doing things like waiting to eat after they’ve been served, or not taking off your jacket until your host has. I also learned helpful tricks in order to always be able to discern my bread plate and drinking glass from the person seated beside me. Another helpful tip mentioned during the dinner, was to also cut only enough food for the next

mouthful, never play with your food or utensils, never wave or point silverware, and to not hold food on your fork or spoon while talking. To conclude, I found all the information to be beneficial and I plan on using these rules in order to have successful dinners in the future....
