Big Five Personality Types Everyone is different in some type of way. When it comes to personalities there are five big personality types to look at. These personality types include extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to experience. Each personality type allows a person to be better at one thing than another and vice versa. These personality types all factor in to the strengths and weaknesses of a specific individual. After spending time to complete the Self-Assessment: What is My Big Five Personality Profile? I was given multiple scores showing which personalities I relate closest to. The first score received was three points in the Extraversion category. The personality trait of Extraversion tends to mean a person is talkative, outgoing, and energetic. This score was not very surprising to me because I tend to be a more reserved person and keep to myself. With this said, I believe if any person is put in the right scenario they have just as much capability of being talkative and energetic as another person with a higher Extraversion personality. The second score received was four points in the Agreeableness category. The personality trait of agreeableness means the tendency to be compassionate and cooperative. Receiving a low score on this category is something I agree with because I am a competitive and challenging person. Competitive and challenging people are often portrayed as argumentative, difficult, and even sometimes untrustworthy. The third category, which had a large score increase of seven points, was the Conscientiousness category. The Conscientiousness personality type refers to the tendency of a person to be organized, dependable, aim for success, and prefer plans over spontaneous decisions. I agree with this score partly because I am a very organized person that always tries to do the best at whatever I set out to do. With this said however, I can often make

spontaneous decisions. The fourth category which was Emotional Stability ranked third out of the big five personalities in my assessment. The Emotional Stability personality type refers to a person’s ability to remain stable and balanced. When making decisions or dealing with hardships I can often be emotional. Whether it refers to being stressed, sad, and/or angry I can be an emotional person. Due to this a higher score was received for the Emotional Stability personality type. Finally, the Openness to Experience personality trait ranked the highest with nine points. The Openness to Experience personality trait refers to a person with an active imagination, attentiveness, and intellectual curiosity. Due to me often looking at new experiences with a broader mind set and taking each experience at hand in a different manner caused a higher score in the Openness to Experience category. I also tend to have more liberal political views which tend to typically score higher in this category rather than being more conservative. The Self-Assessment: What is My Big Five Personality Profile? took a self-assessment of me and determined the personality traits closest to me based off of my answers. Based off of the results the assessment provided I agree with the Conscientiousness personality trait and the Emotional Stability personality trait the most. With this said I also find these personality traits to provide both strengths and weaknesses. The conscientious personality type offers strengths such as; being organized, dependable, and always aim for success. A weakness this personality trait offers me is the fact of being spontaneous which can sometime lead to mistakes and/or regretful decisions. The Emotional Stability trait also offers me strengths and weaknesses. A strength this personality trait offers is the ability to make decisions based off of emotion which can often keep others from being hurt and upset over a certain decision which may cause one to not follow through with the decision. Some weaknesses this personality trait offers me is the possibility of extra stress, extra sadness, and the possibility of being more angry than needed in a particular

situation because of my high Emotional stability. Overall, all of the Big Five Personality Types can have positive and negative effects on a person. Personality types are crucial when referring to a professional career. In most companies many different personality types and people are seen. In my particular situation I believe the Big Five Personality Types will play both positive and negative roles. Due to scoring a moderate score on the conscientious portion I believe the ability to stay organized, dependable, and aim for success will be extremely helpful and beneficial to me as this will allow me to be the most effective employee I am able to be. I also believe scoring high in the Openness to Experience category is extremely beneficial as this category refers to being open to new experiences which I must face every day with different customer situations and issues. I often need to look at new problems and find a way to solve the problem with our product whether it is something custom or standard. Some weaknesses the personality traits may offer are those from the Emotional Stability category. Due to scoring high in this category I can easily be stressed over being busy or making a mistake and can easily be upset by something within the workplace. Due to the workload I am often forced to take on stress is often my biggest enemy. With this said I believe this may be a crucial weakness in my job performance. Overall, the different personality traits offer both strengths and weaknesses influencing my job performance. In conclusion, the Big Five Personality Types is important not only in the workplace, but also in life. The different personality types offer each individual person a different set of unique attributes. Having a mix of personality traits within a company is beneficial in a number ways as it offers new ideas, better ideas, and a better understanding overall of people. The Big Five Personality Types is seen in every person and are never the same from person to person as everyone is their own unique person.
