CDC Webpage On ADHD

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has proven to be one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in children around the world. People with ADHD can have trouble focusing and sitting for long periods of time. The Centers Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) created a webpage called Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (CDC 2020) to educate individuals on ADHD Signs, symptoms, different types, causes, diagnosis and ways of treatments. CDC webpage focuses primarily on children and ways for parents to seek help for treatment and educate themselves. Also the CDC webpage uses logos, pathos, ethos in ways to educate people and provide truthful information on ADHD overall.

Parents with children is the primary audience that the CDC is trying to reach with their information as well as individuals who are affected with ADHD. It is believed by the CDC that ADHD is a disorder that effect thousand of children in today's world. The webpage that was created mentions the three different types of ADHD and how the severity of the symptoms increases depending on the different types . At the moment the causes and risk for ADHD is unknown but it is believed that genetics do play an important role in people with ADHD. It is said that people who also suffer from ADHD also suffer from anxiety, depression and learning disorders. The types of treatment available to people with ADHD are behavioral therapy as well as medication.

The CDC uses Logos on their webpage by the layout of their page. Everything listed on the CDC webpage is easy to understand and read. Not only are there facts and statics to backup everything that they say which makes there webpage seem more reliable and credible but all there information is listed in their own categories with there own tabs and bulletin. In addition there is also additional links listed in each tab if someone was seeking additional information on what they have just read for better understanding. The CDC webpage also includes an “Get Help” tab, in this get help tab there is information listed on ways you can seek help if needed and different resources to use. The get help link provides different contact information and services for children with special needs. Logos is when you can convince an audience by using logic and reasoning (patho.ethos.logos 2015). The CDC makes it easier for readers to navigate their page in a logical sense.

Ethos is showing your audience you're a credible source and worth them paying attention to. Ethos is important to readers because they would be more likely to read what you wrote if they see your information is from a credible and reliable source. The Center Disease Control and Prevention is known for its credible and reliable information which makes there website reliable. The credibility of their website comes from the name and it being known as an government based webpage. Additionally the CDC webpage also mentions reference pages that hold just as much credibility as them to back up all their information and findings. To name a few they use the National Resource center on ADHD and The U.S Department Of Education as a few of there sources which back up the CDC website credibility.

Throughout the entire website pathos is listed. Pathos is convincing the audience by appealing to their emotions. The author writes what he wants the reader to feel and how he wants them to emotionally

respond when reading. Pathos is important because you want your readers to emotionally relate or emotionally feel so some way about what they're reading. Emotionally the CDC webpage is friendly and knowledgeable. Some of the emotions on the pages are brought by the pictures that are listed on the web page. There is a picture of a mom holding her daughter which gives the readers an insight of the experience and makes them feel more willing to learn new information and gives an overall friendly approach.

The CDC webpage is effective because it is knowledgeable and it contains accurate information. Someone who is unaware of what ADHD is and the effects it has on individuals would learn a lot of important information after reading the article on their webpage. Being that the webpage shows credibility, applies to the readers emotions and is organized with clear understanding it shows logos, pathos and ethos....
