Description

Chapter 3: Daenerys We’re going to show you which main characters appears into the series and chapter, plus, where the story takes place, so y’all can have a better notion of who we are talking about in our summary. The story takes places in Pentos. Daenerys: the most important character in our chapter, also known as Dany Viserys: Dany’s brother Illyrio is a Magister of Pentos and a supporter of the house Targaryen. Khal Drogo: Drogo is a khal or warlord of the Dothraki Usurper: also known as Robert Baratheon, he’s the lord of the Seven Kingdoms Summary Viserys is preparing to present Daenerys to the Dothraki, Khal Drogo, in the hope that the Khal will take her as his wife in exchange for soldiers to reclaim the Iron Throne Throne of the Seven Kingdoms, that had been taken from them by the Usurper. Later on, you get to know that the Usurper is in fact, Robert Baratheon, the actual king. Viserys warns Daenerys not to fail him and wake the dragon, which is his expression to mention that he has blood of a dragon and he will be very angry and hurt Dany if she wakes the dragon inside him. So, Illyrio’s servant prepare Daenerys for the meeting with Khal Drogo. She always thought that she would marry her brother like the Targaryens always have. But her brother would do anything to have his land back. Our chapter ended with Dany meeting Khal Drogo, but in the series it goes even further with the wedding, and the “honeymoon”. Dany is scared that night, it seemed like Khal Drogo is going to rape her.

Differences We didn’t encounter a lot of big changes in the series and chapter. But there were some differences.

In the series Dany looks older than 13. Dany is also described as having pale, silvery-blonde hair and purple eyes in the book. In the series she has blue eyes and platinum hair. There are a lot more people described in the book that aren't mentioned in the series. All of the main characters are also physically different in the book than in the series. Even though the way Dany and Drogo meet is similar, some of the things that happened aren't chronologically the same. ex. Dany says to her brother that she doesn't want to be Drogo's queen just after she has seen him and that he left. But in the book she told her brother she didn't want to be his queen just before meeting him for the first time. Dany was also the only woman to attend her wedding in the book. We do think that the series was similar to the book, so people who have read the books can relate to what they see in the episodes. The most drastic change for us is that it seems like the series is much more rude than what’s written in the book, due to the rape scene and the naked women bodies. We do think that the way they wanted to tell us the story is in both cases the same. The purpose of Viserys to get his throne back by using his sister is clear and the different scenes are also very similar even though the chronology of some scenes aren’t perfectly alike. But the changes didn’t have an impact on the narration. Due to the fact that the changes aren’t a big deal, I don’t think one is better than the other if we base our choices on the changes that were made. 1. To be honest, even though I’m not a big fan of that kind of stories, I loved both. I wanted to have some literature in english, and I got what I wanted. I was very happy at the end, that I was capable of understanding such a text, with a lot of difficult words. What I did like about the book is that I kind of enjoy reading and that you get to know Daenerys thoughts a little bit

more. And, I did like the series because you have the opportunity to visually see what happens, is a plus to me. But, the way they show everything without any prude is a little bit weird, I’m not used to that at all. 2. I thought the book was more interesting to read than to watch the show itself because I prefer to know what’s inside someone's head. You have to think about what’s happening, what people look alike, what they are feeling. But, understanding an episode is clearly much easier than reading a chapter about a story that you don’t really understand, due to the difficult words they use to describe the things they are doing or saying in the story....
