Conjugal Relationship in R K Narayan's Novel The Dark Room: An Inimitable Story of Struggle! Dr. Anshu Pandey Department of English College of Computer Science, Pune, Maharashtra. E-mail : [email protected] [email protected] Abstract: My aim through this article is to propagate that Narayan is not only writing about Savitri who is trying to release herself from her married life and struggle with the problem of self revelation but through Savitri, also about those women whose voices have been suppressed, those who have been imprisoned by obstinate culture and tradition, those who have been ravished to follow so called patriarchal codes and conducts and those who have been deprived of enjoying their lives. Her husband could not understand her feelings. He explores the isolation between married couples. . Narayan traces in the dramatization of uncertainty, estrangement and the question of liberty. His characters do not have fixed identities, and they suffer from their individuality problems. Their lives are based on illusions, and the line between the reality and craving is absent. Key words: Conjugal Relationship, loss of identity, Isolation, entire frustration Résumé: Pandey, Anshu has worked as Assistant Professor in Department of English, C.M.P College University of Allahabad, Allahabad.
