Couples and Divorce Interview

Jonathan Garcia Suarez Grand Canyon University BHS 430 Kevin Feisthamel

2 Couples and Divorce Interview I would like to thank my coworker for participating in this Q&A. He has recently been divorced and was willing to open up with details and informative responses. Q&A While the divorce, did it affect your kids? If so, how did it affect them? As parents, we like to believe that the divorce was a good decision for the kids. We would notice how much it would hurt them when their parents would fight over things. It was a better choice to do it while they’re young because the healing process wouldn’t be as deadly compared to someone who could be in the teenage years. How did the divorce affect you? It’s always tough to think that this was the person you believed you would spend the rest of your life with. When you marry young, often times we think that we are unstoppable and can face anything head on. Now that it has been finalized, sure it hurts sometimes, but it was for the best. If you could go back in time, would you not have married this person? Absolutely not. We created great memories and good kids. Fighting aside, we had good memories and whatever happens, I just want her to be happy.

Summary Halfway through the interview I realized that sometimes partners have to make hard decisions in their life and unselfish decisions. Divorcing each other and eliminating that toxic part of the kid’s lives could ultimately do a lot of good work moving forward in their development. I also realized that his story sounded very similar to rom-coms that you watch on Netflix. If this is anything like a rom-com then hopefully the end up getting back together. Unfortunately, studies performed by American Psychological Association, 40 to 50 percent of married couples in the United States end up divorces. Meanwhile, the 2015 US Census Bureau discovered that people tend to remarry less often than they used to. With that being said, the chances of my coworker remarrying this ex-wife is slim, but not completely written off!
