Critical Thinking Questioning Strategies...

Description

Critical Thinking and Questioning Strategies Matrix Grade Level: 3 Content Areas (Minimum of two): ELA and Math Standards

Selected Standard #1: 3.RL.3 Sequence of Events

Selected Standard #2: 3.GM.D.8 Perimeter of Polygons

Selected Standard #3: 3.OA.A.1 Multiplication as repetitive adding

Aligned Learning Objectives Students will read a book that is at their level about the topic we are learning about which are inventions. Then they will fill out a graphic organizer with the correct sequence of events. Student will go around the room to different polygons that are on a paper with the side measurements so they can find the perimeter of each polygon.

Student will use counters to show that multiplication is adding groups of the numbers.

Inquiry Based Instructional Strategies The students will be able to say the order in which important events happened correctly.

Higher Order Question #2

What are the key events in the story?

What does an inventor need to do before he invents?

What is the end of the inventing process?

I will give the students multiple choice questions about the order of the story and what they believe the key events are.

Real life application

What is the equation for perimeter?

Does the equation of perimeter change based on the side of the polygon?

What things can we apply this to in real life?

Hands on manipulatives.

What is my multiplication equation?

How many times would I have to add each number?

How many groups should I make?

I would have the student take a quiz with different written and multiple-choice questions on it. I would be able to tell if they are using the right equation by the work they have shown. I would have the students be in groups and share one of the problems they solved and how they solved it to the rest of the class.
