Description

Basic Components of Worldview Name: Amanda Martinez Course: Christian Worldviews Date: 8/15/21 Instructor: Matthew Hampton Be sure you answer both Part 1 and Part 2 of this assignment before submitting.

Part 1: Core Worldview Beliefs Based on the basic components of worldview presented in Chapter 2 and the topic overview, write a response to each of the six questions that form the basic components of your own core worldview beliefs. Respond to the questions about your own beliefs in your own words, and not necessarily what you think the Christian worldview believes. Keep this document intact and only add your answers in the box under each question. 1. What is your belief about the nature of ultimate reality? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: My belief about the nature of ultimate reality God, saints and angels are real. I believe our spirit travels into his kingdom, after our body withered away. I believe this because when something good or bad happens to me I have someone with me even though I cannot see them. 2. What is your belief about the nature of the universe? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I believe that the universe is the space in which God, and all exist. I do not think God created the universe it simple is time and space. I think the universe is the canvas and God is a being that could manipulate it. I think this because can we really say what came first God or the universe. 3. What is your belief about human nature and the afterlife? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: When God created earth, he made humans in his image. God is the creator and he put us here to see what we can and how we handle life. I think this way because we all have goals that we set, and I think our success is our proof that we are worthy. In the after life our spirit travels to heaven and we reunited with loved ones.

4. What are the three worldview (atheism, pantheism, theism) beliefs about the nature of knowledge? Which one best fits your belief? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: Atheists believe in God somewhat, but they also believe in scientific proof. Pantheism is more of a spiritual belief system and has no type of higher being. Theism is when you believe in God or in a higher being. I think my beliefs fall into the Theism and Pantheism view because I believe in God as my creator but I believe in spirits and that’s the way we return to God and his kingdom after we leave our human state. 5. What is your basis for determining moral right from moral wrong? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: My basis of determining moral right from moral wrong is if that action is going to cause someone pain or injury do not do it. I think of the outcome of both sides of the topic or obstacle and pick the outcome that is going benefit everyone. I think this way to avoid unnecessary conflicts and to make as many people as possible happy. 6. What is your belief about human purpose? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: Human purpose to me is similar to human nature, we are an image of God our nature is to serve him and become worthy. Our purpose is to worship God thru the bible and teachings. I believe we learn God’s ways and try to teach others and continue the teaching to our children and spread his word to whoever may listen. I believe this because as humans we can create life thru childbirth and we can spread our knowledge to others.

Part 2: Evaluation 1. Your answers to the questions in Part 1 form the basis of your worldview. Now that you have articulated your worldview, evaluate it according to the practical test described in Chapter 2 of the textbook and the topic overview. Which of the three worldviews most closely matches your core beliefs as you answered in Part 1? Does your worldview pass the practical test for livability? Why or why not? Provide a clear explanation of the workability and practical value in the most important areas of life and experience. Your answer in 200-300 words: Theism I believe is the worldview that matches my core beliefs. I believe in God, and I wish to share my knowledge and wisdom of him to others. Those are just a couple of reasons I believe my worldview is theism, I also believe God is our creator, and he is all knowing. The practical test main question as stated in our reading is “Can one live with this worldview?” I do indeed believe that with theism as my worldview passes the practical for livability. I do not attend church every Sunday and have the bible memorized

but I can share my thoughts and my education with people in my life. I can apply the word of God and the moral teachings into my daily life and when faced with obstacles. Theism workability in my life because I can discuss my devotion and loyalty of God, to be respectful, and give gratitude. My experience of theism as my worldview is new to me and I am not sure if this is correct, but I feel like every day I get to express at my job as a health information management tech I get to show compassion and respect the people I help. Thru conversation I sometimes get to share my faith with people and learn about theirs. 2. Reflect on your current understanding of the Christian faith. In other words, what is the essence of the Christian worldview? How does one become a Christian? Your response will need to articulate your understanding of Christian beliefs and does not require you to believe it. Your answer in 200-300 words: As a Christian you learn the fact that God sent his son Jesus, born thru Immaculate Conception to save the humans. According to the bible Jesus started his ministry at age 30 and declared himself the Son of God. Jesus was crucified as victim of sin and all our sins. Jesus was resurrected because God forgave our sins. This story of Jesus is strong belief for the faith of Christianity because it demonstrates a promise that sins can be forgiven. Also, with the resurrection it offers the strong belief of salvation and eternal life. I believe this to be the essence of the Christian worldview, the belief in and the acceptance of Jesus’s death and resurrection. To become a Christian, you must except God as your one and only God. You must never question or doubt his word and lessons. Christians also believe that you communicate with God thru prayer. You must turn away from sin at all costs and if you should sin you must admit your sin and ask for mercy and forgiveness. Finally, you must always spread the word of God to people that will listen and who do not share your faith. If you trust in the faith of God and trust that sin can be forgiven you are on your way to becoming a Christian.
