Description

Basic Components of Worldview Name: Lorenzo Williams Course: CWV-101 Date: February 5, 2021 Instructor: Bob Greene Be sure you answer both Part 1 and Part 2 of this assignment before submitting.

Part 1: Core Worldview Beliefs Based on the basic components of worldview presented in Chapter 2 and the topic overview, write a response to each of the six questions that form the basic components of your own core worldview beliefs. Respond to the questions about your own beliefs in your own words, and not necessarily what you think the Christian worldview believes. Keep this document intact and only add your answers in the box under each question. 1. What is your belief about the nature of ultimate reality? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: Asking yourself if god exist is the main focus of ultimate reality. I personally believe in a God, so I believe in ultimate reality in an extent. Ultimate reality is the question of if there is a higher power and who is that higher power whether it be a God or a mystical spirit. 2. What is your belief about the nature of the universe? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: Nature of reality begs the question is the universe created by the big bang theory or through a spiritual power from the ultimate reality. I personally believe the universe was created though the big bang theory which was thus orchestrated through a higher power such as God. 3. What is your belief about human nature and the afterlife? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: With the thought of human nature being “are humans merely higher orders of mammals” it made me question what I really think of humans and their purposes on this planet. We are merely just evolved animals to an extent. When it comes to afterlife I think there is an afterlife and its never for punishment just an tranquil bliss in which we attend to.

4. What are the three worldview (atheism, pantheism, theism) beliefs about the nature of knowledge? Which one best fits your belief? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: Knowledge ties into the three worldview beliefs because with knowledge there are the sources and limitations, in which knowing your own personal worldview belief gives you the knowledge. The one that aligns with my beliefs the most is Deism, believing there is a god but he does not control the world or have no effect on it. 5. What is your basis for determining moral right from moral wrong? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: My basis for determining what is right from wrong is who it effects and how it effects them or myself. Usually I think of myself and ask myself would it be appropriate it they did the situation to myself and if it is acceptable to me then it could be morally right otherwise its morally wrong. 6. What is your belief about human purpose? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I believe every human has a purpose. Whether we find that purpose is up to our journey in life and the choices we make upon that journey. We each have a purpose which is meant for good but can be chosen to be evil for example Hitler could’ve led people with love and kindness which could’ve been his purpose but he choose to lead people with hate and fear.

Part 2: Evaluation 1. Your answers to the questions in Part 1 form the basis of your worldview. Now that you have articulated your worldview, evaluate it according to the practical test described in Chapter 2 of the textbook and the topic overview. Which of the three worldviews most closely matches your core beliefs as you answered in Part 1? Does your worldview pass the practical test for livability? Why or why not? Provide a clear explanation of the workability and practical value in the most important areas of life and experience. Your answer in 200-300 words: The worldview I most align with is ultimate reality begging the question is there a god, I seem to ask myself that question a lot believing there is a god. With Deism I believe there is a god who created all things but is not involved in the world. The way I believe is there is a god watching over us creating and taking life but isn’t involved in world actions. The reason I believe this is the idea of freewill, during the holocaust people had the freewill to do the actions making it morally wrong for their actions but still were able to do the actions they made because of freewill. My worldview does adhere to the practical test for livability. It continues to bring me satisfaction to know I have freewill and allows me to

live my daily life through gods’ eyes allowing for me to believe he is watching me but letting me find my own life’s purpose that there isn’t a predetermined destiny in which I need to follow. This brings me to commit to living happily as stated the practical test determines if a worldview is accessible to bringing human happiness, satisfaction, and daily life. 2. Reflect on your current understanding of the Christian faith. In other words, what is the essence of the Christian worldview? How does one become a Christian? Your response will need to articulate your understanding of Christian beliefs and does not require you to believe it. Your answer in 200-300 words: Theism is what my understanding of the Christian faith to be, meaning there is a belief that god created and sustains life. Which ties with ultimate reality allowing for god to be the supreme and final person the ultimate of reality. I believe the essence of the Christian faith worldview is god is the ultimate reality and he has chosen the ethics of the world and what is right and wrong. I am not familiar with how one becomes a Christian personally before research. I Know when I was exploring religions, I explored the Jewish faith and Catholics faith. The worldview of Christianity is much like my own faith, knowing ethical what’s right from wrong and before knowing the difference a basic question I feel that upholds a lot of ethics is the phrase “what would Jesus do?”. from this phrase it creates the ethics of a Christian human being. When it comes to nature of the universe in Christianity, I believe it is influenced by the ultimate power in such meaning if you pray then the reality will change and help or hurt you never hurting someone else because then it would be ethically wrong. Humans were created in Christianity to be Gods children same as animals as gods’ children but different species not just evolved animals.
