Description

Basic Components of Worldview Name: Ashley Green Course: CWV-101 Date: 9/23/2020 Instructor: Professor Jibben Be sure you answer both Part 1 and Part 2 of this assignment before submitting.

Part 1: Core Worldview Beliefs Based on the basic components of worldview presented in Chapter 2 and the topic overview, write a response to each of the six questions that form the basic components of your own core worldview beliefs. Respond to the questions about your own beliefs in your own words, and not necessarily what you think the Christian worldview believes. Keep this document intact and only add your answers in the box under each question. 1. What is your belief about the nature of ultimate reality? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: God exists everywhere. He is separate from the physical world in which he created but through prayer can be communicated with. 2. What is your belief about the nature of the universe? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: The universe was created by God. The universe consists of a physical and spiritual realm.

3. What is your belief about human nature and the afterlife? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: Human nature is to achieve a “god like” disposition. Humans should seek to be pure with the understanding that sin does occur, and one should seek God even more during those times. God should be held near at all times. The end goal or afterlife is to join him behind the gates of heaven to be reunited with past family members and no longer suffer in this world of sin. 4. What are the three worldview (atheism, pantheism, theism) beliefs about the nature of knowledge? Which one best fits your belief? Why? © 2020. Grand Canyon University. All Rights Reserved.

Your answer in two to three sentences: Atheism is natural cause and effect. Pantheism is the belief that there is a spiritual realm but no real relationship. Theism is the belief of a personal relationship with God the creator and sustainer of all that exists. 5. What is your basis for determining moral right from moral wrong? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: The ten commandments are the basis for determining moral right from wrong. They are the moral code in which Christians live by. 6. What is your belief about human purpose? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: The human purpose is to live as God’s children, spreading his word and good will to all mankind. God’s children are to care for and love the earth and one another just as he did.

Part 2: Evaluation 1. Your answers to the questions in Part 1 form the basis of your worldview. Now that you have articulated your worldview, evaluate it according to the practical test described in Chapter 2 of the textbook and the topic overview. Which of the three worldviews most closely matches your core beliefs as you answered in Part 1? Does your worldview pass the practical test for livability? Why or why not? Provide a clear explanation of the workability and practical value in the most important areas of life and experience. Your answer in 200-300 words: The worldview that matches my core beliefs the best would have to be Theism. I believe that my worldview does pass the practical test for livability. Starting with the moral code of determining what is right and wrong. The ten commandments are not an unattainable way of life. They state that one should not steal, cheat, lie, murder, put any other gods before God himself, take the Lord’s name in vain, be jealous or do things out of jealousy, as well as honor your parents. Many of the commandments are already laws put into place by our government. Honoring your parents should come fairly easy, depending on the parents you may have had. I know some would disagree in that aspect, but if one would consider the love God has for all his children regardless of sin, this may help them with that. I believe that one of the most challenging parts of my worldview for some would be the commandment of covet. Jealous can be a terrible monster but it is something that can be mastered. I feel as though fulfilling our purpose in life to be God’s children and spread his word is also attainable, attending church and showing others how wonderful God can truly be is something that is most enjoyable. Following the example set forth by our God

the father makes us into better people. 2. Reflect on your current understanding of the Christian faith. In other words, what is the essence of the Christian worldview? How does one become a Christian? Your response will need to articulate your understanding of Christian beliefs and does not require you to believe it. Your answer in 200-300 words: One becomes closer to becoming a Christian when they accept understanding that we are all sinners. We cannot make it on our own and need the Lord to guide us. A person needs to accept that they need a Savior, a father to show them the way and draw close to him. Once a person accepts that no one can do this alone, they must accept the gift of God in that he offers eternal life. When a person accepts this amazing gift, they can be considered born again. In becoming born again a person is ultimately saved and washed off all of their sins during a baptism. Once the baptism has been preformed one is cleansed and ready to lead a life close to God. Many people believe that after being baptized, sinning no longer happens but this is not quite true. We all sin, it is what we do with that sin that is the issue. Drawing nearer to God and repenting for your sins is what is important. The Christian worldview in my understanding is that human life was created by God to be like him, to love one another and care for the earth as he did. He gave his only son to die for our sins because Jesus was the only one that could live an entirely sin free lifestyle that appeased God. We have been put here to spread his word and good will and in return we will be rewarded with eternal life in heaven with him, free of pain and suffering.
