Description

Fall of Humanity: Then and Now Worksheet Name: Rachel Hruska Course: CWV- 101 Date: 4/28/2019 Instructor: PART ONE: THE FALL - THEN Read the assigned readings in Topic 3 (textbook Chapter 4, Lecture 3, "The Mystery of Original Sin" article, and Bible passages) and address the following questions with a total word count (including all questions and answers combined) of 500-900 words. Cite all of the resources used with in-text citations, using at least two sources from the Topic 3 readings. Include these in the reference list at the end of the assignment. Write your paragraph response directly below each question: 1. What is revealed about human nature (from Genesis 1-2)? Human nature is distinct from the animals and other creatures because humans are able to think and feel. The genesis one and two provides the information that human nature is superior because of ability to reason. It has been illustrated that it is offered by the god. The reasons we offer help us to understand our nature and nature of God as well and offer insights for our creation by him. Bible teaches that god has created in his own image. The genesis one and two reveal that god has provided some of his attributes in human. People love because they are made in the image of god who is love (1John 4:16). The compassion, faithfulness, kindness, patience and fairness are reflected in the nature of people. The article and bible provides this information regarding the human nature. 2. What are the consequences of the fall for human nature (from Genesis 3)? The genesis three reflects the traditional protestant interpretation for bringing sin in the world. Satan has come in to form of snake and convinces Eve to eat the frit of forbidden tree. The god has said to Adam and Eve that you will have all comforts but don’t eat or touch the tree in the middle of the garden. But Satan has convinced Eve that God has lied to her and has convinced that eating the fruit of tree, she and Adam will become as gods. They will have moral sense and even all these lies, Eve has tested the fruit and Adam has followed the suit. This incident is known as the fall of humanity. The consequence of this act was that first time death has entered in to the world. Before that all creatures were immortal. The Roman Catholic Church interpreted this act as the whole of human history has experienced the fault that was committed by first parents. The human nature first time had enmity with god. This also reveals the human nature to blame for faults to others as Eve had done when she blamed serpent for misdeed. The consequences of sins have many shapes. It may be described as the rise of humans not the fall as described. It shows that Adam and Eve did not have moral sense and they were proto-humans. This shows the curiosity of man to try and invent something new. It can be said that with testing of fruit, Adam and Eve had advanced from animal like status to full humanity with moral sense. It

has been reflected by this truth that Adam and Eve did not die immediately a Snake had told the truth. The consequences of this can be understood with this fact that human race has progressed gradually from near animals state to matured creatures. The other consequences are that God has increased pain during childbirth for Eve and cursed that women cannot have authority over husbands. For man god cursed the ground with thorns and weeds that kill plants and made it difficult for Adam to gain food.

3. What is revealed about human purpose from the readings? What does it mean for humans to flourish, in other words to achieve spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being? The reading reveals that God wanted to make man like him. The man made in the likeness of God reflects that God wanted to follow his command by man and wanted to make them identical. He wanted from man to preserve the qualities and facilities offered by him. It was clear from Bible that God wanted to have intelligent agreement for obeying from man. But all these readings reveal that Human had started doubting about the Gods creations and guidance and wanted to test the result of fruit out of curiosity. According to James 1 verse 4, temptation can conceive desire and desire can give birth to sin and sin can give birth to death. So even after giving all the comforts to Adam and Eve, they had tried to eat fruit to know the result. The readings reflect that man curiosity and temptation has caused the sin and the purpose of man has been changed. For acquiring the spiritual, emotional and mental well being, man should relinquish the temptation and greed and concern for I am (Shuster, 2013) as said by Chesterton and develop compassion, kindness and other moral values that has been provided as attributed by God to people. 4. How might these questions about human nature, purpose, and flourishing be answered by those holding a pantheistic or atheistic (choose one) worldview? The answer shows that man has committed sin by not following the order of god. He has developed a moral sense but also greed and temptations. If it is compared to Theism, it certainly goes against the belief of this world view that people should carry the image of god and should be eternal and spiritual in their approach. The spiritism and polytheism beliefs show that there are spirits who govern and material things are real. But the answers do not confirm spiritism and polytheism. As man has developed moral sense and become opportunistic, he has created his own values for achievement and postmodernism worldviews supports the answers revealed in previous questions. The pantheism has only spiritual dimension and it does not support the actions of Eve and Adam taken because of temptation and curiosity. The only worldview that supports the answer is the Naturalism that does not talk about the values and morals and these are concerned as individual preferences that can be changed according to situations demands. Eve and Adam practice the same thing.

PART TWO: THE FALL - NOW Consider how the fall and humanity's exposure to good and evil are seen in the way some people treat themselves and others in dehumanizing ways today (examples: abuse, addiction, bullying, domestic violence, eating disorders, human trafficking, pornography, poverty, racism, vandalism, etc.). Choose one act of dehumanization and write the script for a short TV public service announcement in 350-650 words. Use at least two different sources from the GCU Library cited in the text and listed below in the list of references. Include the following: 

Highlight how the act of dehumanization is evident in the world today.

Provide solid ideas for prevention.

Include statistics, causes, and impact on people (victim, perpetrator, others as appropriate).

Discuss how a God-centered worldview contributes to a solution.

Include notes within the script about the images and video that would be included when shooting the commercial.

From the topic materials, view the two examples of a public service announcement: 1. Child Internet Safety PSA - Online Predators 2. Dangers of Sexting: What Teens Need to Know Write your paper below: Part two- the fall now Pornography over the Internet has spread worldwide and it has severe dehumanization act inflicted upon the child and women. It has been identified that children are filmed for pornography and there are many teens’ sites promoting illegal trade of pornography. The dehumanizing act of this has resulted in sexual assault, molestation and rape of child. It has increased the sexual objectification of women further. Worldwide pornography revenue was 97.06 billion dollars in 2006 and there were 1636 child abuse domains in 2008. The worst child abuse has been seen by involving children and adults and penetration by an animal. In 2005 the mobile phone worldwide revenue was expected to rise to 1 billion dollars. The resultant effect is 4

that one in every four girls and one in every six boys was possibly sexually victimized that is reported by the national center for missing and exploited children. All these findings reveal a wide scale of harassment of children and sexual objectification of women. Certainly the attitude and perception of children and adults have affected and worldwide the crimes rates and cases of rapes and molestations have been increased. The god centered worldview that presents the belief that people have god’s attributes such as compassion and kindness, and they are like God can help to develop a spiritual intelligence among people and they can become more sensible to prevent the dehumanizing acts. There is a utmost necessity to curb these dehumanizing acts and for this very reason, god centered worldview must be promoted among people to stick with moral values that are eroding rapidly in society. So it is requested from social institutions, political institutions, from family and individual to familiarize children and young people with god centered worldview to mitigate and eliminate the rapid spread of pornography over Internet. Notes: The visual images and videos must show the sufferings of children and women who are involved in pornography.
