Basic Components of Worldview Name: Saydeh Pena Course: CWV-101 Date: 10.11.20 Instructor: David Key Be sure you answer both Part 1 and Part 2 of this assignment before submitting.

Part 1: Core Worldview Beliefs Based on the basic components of worldview presented in Chapter 2 and the topic overview, write a response to each of the six questions that form the basic components of your own core worldview beliefs. Respond to the questions about your own beliefs in your own words, and not necessarily what you think the Christian worldview believes. Keep this document intact and only add your answers in the box under each question. 1. What is your belief about the nature of ultimate reality? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: The way I define ultimate reality is God. I believe there is one God and only one God. With that being said I believe in the holy trinity which is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 2. What is your belief about the nature of the universe? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I believe that the universe exists but that it doesn’t decide what we do or how our day will go. It has no power over us and our emotions. 3. What is your belief about human nature and the afterlife? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I believe that we are sent on earth to fulfill Gods purpose and to bring people to his kingdom. As for afterlife, I believe in heaven and hell and that what you do on Earth determines where you will spend the rest of eternity. 4. What are the three worldview (atheism, pantheism, theism) beliefs about the nature of knowledge? Which one best fits your belief? Why?

Atheism means that they believe in no God or spiritual being at all. Pantheism believes that God and the universe are one not two separate things. Theism believes that believes in one intellectual being typically God. The worldview that best fits my beliefs is theism. I strongly believe that God created the heavens and the earth. I also believe that I can have a personal relationship with God where I can trust him with my troubles and thank him for the sound of the waves. 5. What is your basis for determining moral right from moral wrong? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: In my opinion I don’t believe that there is a textbook way of telling right from wrong. We all grow up in different environments and see different things as right and wrong. So the best way to tell for me is if it is something you think Jesus would do or approve of. We should strive to be like him every day. 6. What is your belief about human purpose? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I believe that we aren’t on this world just for fun. We have a purpose to fulfill and each of have one in common and one very unique to you. The common one is to bring people to Jesus and the other is based on your relationship with God.

Part 2: Evaluation 1. Your answers to the questions in Part 1 form the basis of your worldview. Now that you have articulated your worldview, evaluate it according to the practical test described in Chapter 2 of the textbook and the topic overview. Which of the three worldviews most closely matches your core beliefs as you answered in Part 1? Does your worldview pass the practical test for livability? Why or why not? Provide a clear explanation of the workability and practical value in the most important areas of life and experience. Your answer in 200-300 words: The worldview that I relate with the most is theism but more specifically monotheism. I believe in only one God and the holy trinity that is our connection to him. We also believe in the importance of faith but also the importance of reason. I believe that my God is the one who created the heavens and the Earth including the universe and that he came down in the flesh as Jesus. We believe that God is not the universe that he only created it. We create personal relationships with him and he interferes in our life according to his plan and purpose. We believe that we live in this world but are not part of is. What that means is that this here Earth is our temporary home and that we are not to get caught up in the worldly things such as partying, drinking heavily, doing drugs etc. It does pass the livability test because although being Christian is tough at times it is completely doable to live a life with Christ as our leader. There are no major rules except for the 10 commandments but they are not rules that restrict us from having a normal life. They just

help us live a better life 2. Reflect on your current understanding of the Christian faith. In other words, what is the essence of the Christian worldview? How does one become a Christian? Your response will need to articulate your understanding of Christian beliefs and does not require you to believe it. Your answer in 200-300 words: To become a Christian there are not many steps to follow. It’s not like a checklist or any exam that needs to be passed. To become a Christian, you need to accept Jesus into your heart and recognize him as your Lord and Savior. Usually how it goes is at the end of service after the worship and message has passed the Pastor will go up and makes a calling to the people of the congregation for something he feels to pray for. Then he will lead a prayer for those to wish to accept Jesus into their hearts. Usually what is said in the prayer is that you ask for forgiveness of your sins and that you want Jesus to come into your heart as your Father. Then when they are ready, they can choose to be baptized in water where they are completely submerged underwater and their sins are cleansed. This here is when we are believed to be reborn again. After that our job is to try our best to spread the gospel and have other people hear the good news about Jesus. We will do our best to shine his light through our testimony and have other notice that we are different because he is in us.
