What is DACA A. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals is a government program that allows children who were brought to the US by their parents illegally at a young age to legally reside in the US. 1. DACA is not a path to citizenship.

2. DACA recipients are sometimes referred to as DREAMERS as the idea for DACA came after Obama’s DREAM Act was not passed. B. DACA History 3. The program was passed under the Obama Administration on June 15, 2012 4. The Trump administration ended the DACA program in 2017 but it was still open in the courts. C. DACA Benefits 5. DACA recipients can become “documented” as they receive a SS number so they can get jobs and pay taxes. 6. Along with jobs comes the opportunity at a college degree that can lead to better jobs and improved lives. 7. Cancellation of DACA would cost the US economy over $400 billion according to a CNBC article a. S&P 500 is believed to have approximately have 75% of these top companies have DACA employees b. The cancellation of DACA removes 30,000 DACA emplyees a month as their work permits expire. c. This leads to a GDP loss of approximately $44 billion per year for the next 10 years. d. Applicants pay a $400+ fee just to apply with no guaranteed acceptance. (Internal Summary) (Transition) II.

D. Requirements 1. The person must be under 31 years of as of June 15, 2012 2. Entered the US prior to their 16th birthday 3. Have continued to live in the United States since June 15, 2007. 4. Must be present for day of appointment 5. No criminal record or felony. 6. Must have been enrolled in high school, graduated, received diploma or GED E. DACA supports children who were brought over illegally at young ages 1. These children did not choose the life, but they are using DACA to its purpose to make a better life out of it. 2.
