Description

General Purpose: To Inform Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about my dream job. Introduction I. When I was five years old, I saw my first dead body. My dad and uncles worked in a funeral home and I went to work with them one day. As I sat in the waiting area, my young and curious mind got the best of me, so I started exploring. That’s when I came upon this room that was really cold. At first, I was skeptical about going in, but I went in anyway. Then there it was. I was looking at a dead body lying there on table, and my dad standing beside it about to cut it open. I yelled “daddy no, we have to figure out how he died first.” II. The purpose of this presentation is to inform you about my dream job of being in law enforcement. III. I am credible on this because of my major in criminal justice and my research. IV. Law Enforcement is important now more than ever because of current issues and tension between them and the public. V. Today I will be discussing my dream job in law enforcement, the wages of these jobs, and why law enforcement is important. Main Points I. I am currently a sophomore criminal justice major. I plan to obtain my Bachelor of Science in criminal justice. With this degree, I will be able to get most state jobs like probation officers, parole officers, GBI workers, etc. A. The US Bureau of Labor Services talks about how not all law enforcement jobs require any type of degrees, but having at least a Bachelor of Science degree makes you more qualified and more likely to obtain jobs in this field. B. Having the degree will help obtain better and higher positions.

II. Law enforcements agencies put their life at risk everyday they go to work. While there shouldn’t be a price on a life, there kinda is and it’s the pay they receive. A. According to the US BLS website, the average income of a full-time law enforcement officer in Georgia, without any type of degree, is $43,828. With a Bachelor of Science degree, the salary will automatically start at $50,000 and this doesn’t include overtime hours. B. According to Zip Recruiter the nationwide salary of any type of law enforcement agency ranges up to $98.4k a year. III. Law enforcement agencies are important right now more than ever. Especially with all the racial tension between law enforcement and the public. A. Statistics from the Bureau of Justice show that almost 75% of Americas population are white and the rest minorities. However, the prison population in America consists of more minorities than whites. Most of those imprisoned were arrested on racially motivated decisions that come from racial profiling. B. This causes fear in minorities of law enforcement and generally affects both. It affects minorities because they can’t feel safe in the place that they call home. When minorities fear law enforcement, it makes solving crimes difficult because the minorities are less willing to help by giving testimonies and other things of that nature. Conclusion I. To end my speech, I would like to state that the criminal justice field is not for the weak and I congratulate anyone who can do it. II. Today I have discussed my dream job of law enforcement, the wages of this job, and why this agency will always be important.

III. Criminal justice is truly my passion and has always been since I was a little girl. Although, I’m not exactly sure what position I will obtain, I know that I will always try my best to change lives in a positive way and make my people feel safer....
