Teaching Strategies 1. Engage: (Review of previous lesson)

Teacher’s Tasks Good morning/afternoon class. Today, we are going to have another lesson in Creative Nonfiction.

Learners’ Tasks

Time Allotment

Good morning/afternoon ma’am.

For a start, first we will review the previous lesson. Select, develop, organize and use appropriate teaching and learning resources, including ICT, to address learning goals.

Using PPT slides, the teacher presents a short quiz to learners to review the previous lesson. Ex. 1. harpygobi (Clue: It portrays the experience s of all events occurring in the life of a person). 2. aegloretuv (Clue: It is a piece of writing about travel) 3. eimmor (Clue: It came from a French word that means memory or reminiscence).

You have to unscramble the following sets of letters to form terms related to forms of creative nonfiction.

Ma’am, the answer for item number 1, is biography. The answer for item number 2, is travelogue.

10 mins.

And for item number 3, it’s memoir.

The teacher then checks if the learners got the answers correctly.

At this point, the teacher proceeds to the next lesson.

2. Explore: (Activation of Prior Knowledge:)

Easy, right? You are correct that a biography portrays the experiences of all events occurring in the life of a person. It is a little bit different from an autobiography with reference to who writes it. A travelogue, on the other hand, is a travel account. It can be write-up about a place, culture, festival, or food. When you write a memoir, you are reminiscing a particular event in your (or someone’s) life.

We shall be discussing more of these particularly autobiography and its various forms as well as the requisite skills for writing them. But before that, let us have a short activity. 1. Do you have an idea what an autobiography is? How is it different from a biography?

The teacher asks the learners a question, then proceeds to the brainstorming activity.

An autobiography ma’am, is the life story of a person written by no other but himself, while a biography is the life story of a certain person (usually very influential/popular) written by another person.

10 mins.

Recall and name three (3) events in your lives. Then decide which one could be an interesting topic for an autobiography in our succeeding activity.

3. Explain. (Activation of Prior Knowledge) Apply knowledge of content within and across curriculum teaching areas

When the students are done with brainstorming, the teacher will ask the class a question: (Answers may vary).

2.What is the importance of autobiographical writing in highlighting one’s real-life experiences? Paraphrase: Why do you think it is important that we write significant events in our life?

Autobiographical writing is important or is valuable in highlighting one’s real-life experiences in the sense that: * it gives us an opportunity for introspection *and as we write significant events in our lives, we are able to reflect on them and make corrections on ourselves or our actions in the past. *We become aware of ourselves and our mistakes, so we can do something about

it to prevent us from making the same mistakes over and over again. *We can look back at so many wonderful moments and be grateful for them. *By writing our life story, we come to know more about ourselves. “Very good answers.” “You did a great job at expressing your thoughts. ” Autobiographical writing is indeed valuable to get to know our selves better as we learn from our past experiences.

4. Elaborate. (Acquisition of New Knowledge The teacher will now present to the class the new lesson.

Apply knowledge of content within and across curriculum teaching areas

She will discuss key concepts of autobiographical writing (e.g., various forms of autobiographical writing, and the requisite skills to be able to write an autobiography).

PERSONAL NARRATIVES - can be

something written for private enjoyment or it could be something that is intended to be shared to inspire or inform others. This brings to life a memorable event and tells how the writer felt about the experience. Forms of Personal Narratives 1. Autobiography – is a true, selfwritten life story. It usually covers more of your life and may contain many elements which are also present in a short story such as dialogue, description, and incidents developed in chronological order.

10 mins.

2. Memoirs – A collection of memories that someone writes about his or her own life. The definition of a memoir is very similar to that of an autobiography; however, an autobiography can cover an entire span of a life, whereas a memoir is usually centered on a specific part of a life (e.g., an important turning point in a person’s life, a particularly memorable story, or group of touchstone events).

The teacher will once in a while ask learners if they understand the concepts defined in the lesson or if they have any questions. Should there be none, the teacher may proceed with the remainder of the discussion/lecture.

3. Reflective Essays – is an analytical practice in which the writer describes a real scene, event, passing thought, memory, or interaction and adding a personal reflection on the meaning of the incident in his/her life. It is similar to a journal entry only that it requires better coherence, structure, and mechanics. The writer primarily examines his/her life for him/her to provide a platform to recount a particular life experience and to explore how he/she has changed or
