Student Directions for Case Study 2

Case Study #2 - “Diabetes and Insulin Signaling”: Week 1 – October 5-9, 2020 Week 2 – October 12-16, 2020 Overall Goal: The overall goal of this two-week project is to achieve a number of objectives. First, insulin is a major thread that is woven into this course (e.g. Humulin – first biologic in 1982, insulin receptor first purified using insulin affinity chromatography, etc.) so it makes sense to continue this major theme in discussion section. Second, and more fundamentally important, is to select a signaling pathway for an in-depth analysis. This case comes from a large bank of case studies from the National Center for Case Studies Teaching in Science (http://sciencecases.lib.buffalo.edu/cs/ ). This is a library of cases held by our sister school University at Buffalo. Before Week 1 you should review the first set of questions (see below for Week1) and sketch out some answers and submit them to your Teaching Assistant before your scheduled discussion section. The Teaching Assistants have answers to all the questions but your efforts may generate even more information that can be shared with your ZOOM discussion section classmates. Week 1: You are responsible for Part I for Week 1. Submit all your answers to your Teaching Assistants as usual before class. As has been the past with the problem sets and Case Study 1 the answers will be discussed during your ZOOM session. Week 2: You are responsible for Parts I and II for Week 2. Submit all your answers to your Teaching Assistants as usual before class. As has been the past with the problem sets and Case Study 1 the answers will be discussed during your ZOOM session....
