Diagnostic Essay: College Is Not Right For Everyone College is not right for everyone. With that said, everyone is not college material. Some students are not ready to go off to college right after graduating from high school. Some students may not be mature enough to go off to college just out of high school. So in my opinion it should be up to the individual if they are ready to start college and take off a year before going to college. Going to college is a great experience, but I feel like a person needs to be ready to go into college and not feel rushed. Most of the time it's hard for a student to live away from their family, for most it could be their first time living away from home. College is about learning, and not partying all night. This is about learning who you are and what you want to do, and getting an education to prepare for a career. Students should be able to have a gap year before going into college A gap year is a period of time a student takes off of school, usually lasting no longer than a year. After a gap year experience whether you work for pay, or volunteer this could put a student a step ahead of others when it comes to jobs after getting their degree. Whatever a student does after taking off a year, could help them decide what it is they want to study, if they were undecided about their career. However, every individual chooses a career, most know what area of study they’re wanting to pursue. Most students major in careers that make the big money, students need to major in an area that they’re passionate about. A career or field of study that a student is passionate about will excel simply because of their love and devotion for the work. More so than others who are just there at the command of others.
