Description

Diagnostic Essay Through every college course is most likely required by a student’s degree plan, that does not mean a student does not require needs from every class they take. For English 1302, I am hoping, through taking this course, I will gain better writing skills that improve chances in my field if I take a research route. If I decide to take the research route, I would need to significantly enhance my skills for writing a strong research essay, something I am fairly weak on. By taking this course, I hope to integrate my writing either into something I am passionate about or that has something that has to deal with my field of study. By taking this course, I hope to improve my weaknesses as a writer and make them strengths by the end of this semester. Throughout my writing career, I have noticed my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, which are constantly changing as I improve my writing. At the beginning of this semester, my strengths include being an organized writer structurally in my essays, using effective grammar for the most part, and being creative to keep my reader engaged. Some of my weaknesses include overwriting, weak connections to evidence, and transitions from one thought to another. Even though these are weaknesses right now, I will be gaining knowledge throughout this course to improve these weaknesses which are seen in the syllabus’s course description. By looking at the syllabus, certain activities and assignments that will be integrated into the class will improve my weaknesses significantly. For my overwriting, each assignment has a word limit which will keep me from overwriting since I would not risk my grade with a 20 percent reduction. Each assignment will deal with evidence and be making connections which will help me improve this weakness the more we write. Lastly, peer review will help in identifying transitions that are ineffective and gain tips from peers on how to create a more effective transition that doesn’t leave the reader confused.

Overall, this course meets my needs as a student and a writer in that I am confident that I will leave this class a better writer with more knowledgeable strategies in any type of writing I may do in the future....
