Question 1: HR Professional Ethics Part A: Read the SHRM Code of Ethics. Review the guidelines under the category of Professional Development. Propose and discuss a learning opportunity that you will pursue to achieve one or more goals related to these guidelines.

1. One of the guidelines in the SHRM Code of Ethics is #4: Pursue certification where available, or comparable measures of competencies and knowledge (SHRM, 2014). I believe that I will pursue this goal because within my company, they promote higher learning and encourage employees to take classes that have them certified in certain classes. Recently I took a class to renew my Servsafe certificate since I am a manager at my job. With this opportunity, I am able to take this certificate to another job if I need too.

Part B: Discuss three examples of ethical challenges that HR professionals may encounter as they apply to modern organizations. Discuss how you would address each situation (not necessarily the solution, but how you would approach the problem). Use the resources provided to support your ideas. Three examples of ethical challenges that HR professionals may encounter are discrimination and harassment, privacy, and safety. It is important for HR professionals to adhere and understand laws that are associated with harassment and discrimination. The best way to approach this situation is making sure to gather as much evidence as possible before addressing anything to either party in the situation. With privacy, it is important that HR managers realize how much sensitive information is at the tip of their fingertip as well as their brain (Scott, S. 2017). It is important that people can confide in their HR manager and not feel like the HR manager is going to tell everyone their private business. An approach to privacy is to understand employees and learn about respecting boundaries as well as abiding to that rule of privacy. Safety is important aspect of a business because employees should always feel safe and protected in dangerous situations. The best approach to safety is to always be alert of your surroundings and to recognize when something or someone is not being safe and immediately correct the issue.

Question 2: Emerging HR Trends Discuss three current or future trends impacting the HR profession. What opportunities and challenges might these trends present for HR and for the organization? As a human resource professional, what new skills and/or competencies would you need to further develop to adapt to these trends and to continue to be successful in your role? Use the resources provided to support your ideas. Some future trends that companies should keep an eye out on are employee experiences, digitalization and gig economy. More companies are focusing on the experience they can give an employee that is not only engaging but focuses on culture and performance management (Leong, 2017). Digitalization will always be an important part of a company because of the growth it can bring. With future trends, HR will have to keep up with updated learning tools that not only benefit the company but employees as well. This includes up to date apps for cellphones. The gig economy focuses on short-term contracts, which is the opposite of what Americans typically search for with jobs. Many people are use to long-term careers where they can build their skills and talents into a company. People now can telecommute and are in need of flexible work schedules. With this new trend, it could increase the work force and expand the talent pool. These trends give people the opportunity to retain their job. Keeping up with the latest trends can keep a company fresh and fulfilling to where employees may feel valued and important. New skills that an HR manager would need to adapt to these new trends are understanding and being able to use new programs and apps as well as understanding how an employee can have a flexible schedule or “short-term” contract without it harming the company in any way. They will have to experiment with what programs and technological apps will hinder or help their company. Leong, C. T. (2017, December 19). Four Key HR Trends To Watch In 2018.
