[Integrative Approach/Content-Based Instruction (CBI)/4As] A. ACTIVITY 1. Flash on screen the following words: a. cheese f. chicken b. camp g. carpenter
c. school h. sky d. religion i. cat e. beef j. altar 2. Ask the dictionary meaning of those words. 3. Then, tell them to consult the dictionary for their origin. B. ANALYSIS 1. Ask for what they have discovered about those words. 2. Ask for its implication. D. ABSTRACTION 1. Introduce the following terms to the students: a. Old English b. Middle English c. Modern English d. Explain briefly how these words became part of the local language(s) in the Philippines.

[Integrative Approach/Content-Based Instruction (CBI)/4As] A. ACTIVITY 1. Show them a chewing gum commercial. 2. Ask what is highlighted in the commercial. B. ANALYSIS 1. Ask them if it is convincing enough to sell the product. 2. Ask the students if they have tasted chewing gum. 3. Ask if they think that chewing gum is popular. D. ABSTRACTION 1. Let the students read the opening paragraph. 2. Ask what it says about the subject matter. 3. Ask the students if they think that chewing gum is a good premium that can still be used to sell other products. E. APPLICATION 1. Make the students prepare a chronology of how Wrigley’s chewing gum came to be. 2. Ask them how new products are introduced to the market. 3. Ask if there are promotional campaigns to launch the new products. 4. Ask if the manufacturers of new products use give-away items in order to sell their products. 5. Encourage the students to discuss why there is a chewing gum ban in some countries. 6. Ask if chewing gum should be banned in the Philippines. 7. Let students present their stand on this issue.
