Jon Benet Ramsey o Reported as a kidnapping o Note was found on the staircase halfway down o Hand tied, duct tape on mouth, strangulation, sexual abuse, skull fractured on right side of head o The three family members were the only ones in the house  Mom, dad, brother o Parents obstructed communication and crime scene Brother: o Reportedly sleeping in bedroom while this happened o 9 years old when it happened o Interview 14 years later  Brother says he didn’t speak on it before because it was too chaotic. He was skeptical of media  20th Anniversary of death, so he felt the need to speak now  Hiding out, forced by parents? o He wanted to grow up as a normal kid  When you look back, Christmas big deal? o Yes, decorations, party, etc.  Two days before murder, xmas party? o Yes, many people, boulder home tour to look at decorations  Gifts open? o Christmas morning…  Last time you saw her alive? o In car on the way back from the “whites” house  Where was your bedroom o Down corner, through playroom, down the hall  After you went to bed, anything out of the ordinary at night? o No!  Mom burst into room, freaking out  Stayed in bed, police came in shining flashlight in room  Did mom turn light on when she came in o Don’t remember  How long before police came in did mom come in o Under hour  Your 9 years old and mother is in your dark room, screaming, frantic, why would you just lay there? Police come in room randomly, flash light, and you just stay in bed o I didn’t know it was a police officer o Liked to avoid conflict, felt safer in room, not worried type, doesn’t want to know what was going on

Critics say you already knew what happened o I was scared. Didn’t know what was happening, if dad had gun etc. no idea Someone eventually told you she was dead o They said she was missing Who told you that? o Detective Were you scared o I was trying to be positive o She’s probably hiding somewhere, check the whole house, maybe she’s hiding Next thing I remember, at friend’s house, dad told him she was dead, started crying o Your mother read the ransom note, have you read it. Ransom note at a murder scene is weird. People think it’s your moms writing. What do you think?

 Father:  John Benet got a doll that looked like her  Doll startled her, mom said looked like john bennet was in coffin  Mom and dad tucked her in  We knew where brother was, we knew he was safe, focus on Jon bennet  Linda Arndt told him to search the house  He shouldn’t have been allowed to because of evidence tampering  Father went down to the basement  Train room, window open, suitcase sitting under the window  Door is closed… wine cellar  Opened door, and Jon bennet was dead on the floor  Picked her up and carried her downstairs, noticed red spot on neck, wanted her to wake up, didn’t know she was dead, joyed that he found daughter,  Mom called 911  Linda states that she knew that it was the father who killed the daughter  She was so worried that she was in the presence of a murderer  She counted people around, counted bullets in gun, and taught shed get 18 bullets to get out of there  Fleet White:  Interviewed 18 times

Shrieks of screaming pain thought to be from the basement Morning of the 26th possibly They had reservations for family cruise Mom/Dad: o Weren’t going to wake kids up o Go down staircase… on the stair case there is a 3-page ransom note o 99% change of killing your daughter if you try to outsmart us. 118,000 ransom requested, we will behead your daughter if you call police (money was exactly what fathers Christmas bonus amount was)  ransom notes are usually pre written, not written in the house. Took at least 15 minutes, pen and paper was from house o ran upstairs and she was gone Friends, pastors, so many people were at the house when the police arrived Many mistakes, forensically, was a mistake—hair, fibers, etc. all over the house from different people now
