Description

Case Study Analysis In each unit of study you will be required to complete a case study of a specific case. Refer to the current unit of study to obtain the name of the case required. Conduct an internet search about the given case and provide information about the case as directed below. Ensure that you are visiting reliable internet sources and that you provide the links of your sources. All case studies must be submitted in your own words. Use the template below to record your responses for the case study. Case Name:

JonBenet Ramsey

Date crime occurred: December 26, 1996 Persons of Interest named in the investigation and relationship to the victim(s): John and Patsy Ramsey-JonBenet’s parents John Mark Karr- who allegedly admitted to drugging, assaulting, and accidently killing JonBenet Burke Ramsey, who is JonBenet Ramsey’s brother Summary of crime sequence: (Detailed summary of what actually happened) Patsey woke up and discovered JonBenet had been kidnapped with only a ransom note demanding $118,000 left behind. The police were called despite the note’s advice to not involve authorities. The police who first responded to the scene made critical errors and corrupted the scene which led to the case going cold. Later the same day, JonBenet’s body was found in the basement, covered in a white blanket, tied and taped up, and strangled. Charges filed against suspect(s): The case went cold due to lack of evidence and poor police investigation. Outcome of the case and current status: (This includes any court proceedings and decisions. Also, include sentencing and dates.): JonBenet’s parents are still highly speculated to be responsible for JonBenet’s death. The case was never solved and is a famous cold case. Case significance: (How is this case important to our understanding of Forensic Science? For example, was a new method or technology used in this case?) The primary reason for the case going cold is police corrupting the scene. They failed to fully search the property, seal off the area, and told the family to search the home themselves. List at least 3 things you found interesting about this case: The police failure to protect the scene was very disappointing and the investigation was poor. I wonder how the parents felt about JonBenet’s brother getting accused of killing him. The fact the police or investigators couldn’t find or trace fingerprints on the ransom note.
