The context of the article, “Some Lessons From The Assembly Line” is to advise his readers that getting a higher education is important. He shares what life could be like if students choose not to pursue a college education. His purpose for writing this article was to persuade his readers on the benefits of obtaining a higher education. This author’s style of writing for this article is conversational. The writer is speaking on his point of view, with a casual tone. He explained that not only did the summer job require him to work long 12-hour shifts, his paycheck still seemed small. He then goes on to explain how the machine he uses constantly gives him trouble. With having such a bad experience at the factory job, he makes the point of furthering your education so that you won’t end up with a job as described for the rest of your life. I have learned that the author makes a valid point. Earning a college education could assist you in getting an enjoyable job where you won’t have to work so hard and your pay would be much more reasonable. To obtain a closer analysis, we must keep notes, make connections, summarize the text and relate to what we’ve learned. A closer analysis will help me learn more about this article by ensuring I understood by note-taking and making a connection. When analyzing the article, I found that I was able to relate to the author. I have had jobs in the past where I felt was very hard-working. I could not see myself working there for years to come. That is why I am continuing school now because I feel like furthering your education is beneficial and would help you in finding a career you would love. I do think the author’s writing is effective in achieving their purpose. He explained the consequences of not getting a higher education. He shares what his future might’ve been had he never gone to college. He also compares how life could be with or without a higher education. I
