Description

ENV118 Environmental Management for a Changing World Hurdle Assessment Task: Weekly Blog and Tutorials Instructions for Hurdle Assessment Task Value: 0% Length: Blog plus worksheets

Due date: Weeks 1-12; before and during each tutorial class Submission: Attendance in class; Blog on iLearn; worksheets in class

You must attend and participate in at least 10 of the 12 weekly tutorials to pass this unit. You must complete at least 10 of the 11 weekly blogs to pass this unit. This is a hurdle requirement. This requires preparation by completing the required readings and related blog, weekly tutorial attendance and quality participation in class activities. This is designed to keep you on track and engaged with the key concepts and material in ENV118. The assessment has two components, as described below. If you cannot complete your blog in any given week, or if you cannot attend class due to a special circumstance (e.g. an unforseen disturbance to your study) you must have documented evidence and log a request for special consideration via ask.mq. Part A - Preparation: reading and weekly blog All students are expected to complete the required readings before each tutorial class. The required readings are marked with an asterisk (*) in each week on iLearn and also on the tutorial worksheets which are also available on iLearn. If two readings are marked with an asterisk in iLearn, please read both and then choose one to summarise in your blog. The readings themselves are available via the unit readings option of multisearch on the library website (see https://www.mq.edu.au/about/campus-services-andfacilities/library/borrowing/reserve-and-unit-readings) All students must submit an individual blog relating to one reading for each tutorial in weeks 2-12 (a total of 11 blog posts). All students must submit least 10 of the 11 weekly blogs to pass this unit. Submission is via the “Weekly blog” link on iLearn. You must submit your weekly blog post prior to your tutorial class each week. For external students, tutorials will be run as weekly online activities through the “External student discussion thread” on iLearn and the due date for all blogs and worksheets by external students will be Thursday at 5pm. Blogs should succinctly summarise the key points and issues raised by the reading for that week, and demonstrate an appropriate understanding of the subject matter. Please note that: • Weekly blog posts should not exceed ~200 words and do not require references. • Blog posts should be written in your own words, they must not plagiarise the paper or reading. • The target audience for your blog should be young adults with a budding knowledge of or interest in environmental issues. Part B: Class attendance and quality participation You must attend and participate in at least 10 of the 12 weekly tutorials to pass this unit. All students are expected to participate in constructive and respectful class discussions, have focussed engagement with the worksheets, and complete the ecofootprinting analysis. Students will also be selected at random each week to draw on their blog and present a brief critical summary of the relevant reading(s) and to facilitate discussion during tutorials. Your tutor will record and assess your engagement with the tutorial based on: • Accurate and full completion of the weekly worksheets (in class for internal students; posted on iLearn for external students). • Quality participation in class discussions (in class for internal students; posted on iLearn for external students). 1...
