How do I submit my military transcripts to WGU? Official transcripts are the only acceptable documents—a DD214 is insufficient. You can request an official military transcript(s) online at one of the following sites: • • •

Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy: https://jst.doded.mil/smart/welcome.do Air Force: https://www.airuniversity.af.edu/Barnes/CCAF DANTES or CLEP: http://getcollegecredit.com/

Note: If you are enrolling in a graduate level program (Masters) then you are not required to submit your military transcripts. How do I get my Proof of Entitlement? There are two ways to verify your entitlement. The document must show your name, months and days of remaining entitlement, your eligibility percentage, and end date—if available—to be valid. 1. A printable statement of benefits or screenshot from va.gov or ebenefits.gov 2. A copy of your most current Certificate of Eligibility, or Verification of Enrollment letter that you received from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

If you need to apply for education benefits, do that at Education Benefits. Complete the Application for VA Education Benefits (Form 22-1990). After the VA processes the form, they will send you a "Certificate of Eligibility” in the mail. You must upload a copy of the letter in your student portal when received. If you have previously used your benefits at another school or are changing your program, update your benefit status at Manage Benefits. Complete the Request for Change of Program (Form 22-1995). When applying for, or changing your CH 33 benefits, you will enter WGU’s address as part of the school selection section. Please use the address below no matter what state you live in. Using any other address will result in rejection of the application. Western Governors University 4001 South 700 East STE 700 Salt Lake City UT, 84107 If you have trouble accessing any of the VA sites, call the Vets.gov Help Desk at 1-855-574-7286.

How do I locate the Veterans Affairs (VA) Addendum? Log into your WGU student portal at https://my.wgu.edu/. Select the ‘Student Services’ tab at the top right, then select ‘Financial Services’ on the left-hand side. The ‘Military Support’ tab will appear in the drop-down. Click the Veterans Affairs (VA) Addendum link to open the document. *Remember—it can take up to 48 hours from receipt of this email to have access to the Military Support page in your Student Portal to complete the Addendum and other requirements. What is the VA full-time standard vs. WGU full-time standard? VA regulations determine how your benefits are paid. WGU’s terms are six months long (or roughly 26 weeks) which the VA considers a ‘nonstandard term’. With CH 33 benefits, WGU receives payment for your tuition and fees at the eligibility percentage determined by the VA. However, the VA uses ‘rate of pursuit’ (based on the number of credits/ CUs you are enrolled in) to determine the stipend amount paid directly to you each month. While WGU considers 12 CUs to be a full-time enrollment in an undergraduate program, the VA calculation uses the term length and pays as follows: Undergraduate students (Bachelor’s Degree) • • •

100% Full-time rate of pursuit = 18+ CUs 70% Rate of Pursuit = 12 CUs You are never required to enroll in more than the WGU minimum of 12 CUs to receive benefit pay. You will receive a monthly stipend enrolled in less than 18 CUs, just at a pro-rated amount of the full-time pay.

Graduate students (Master’s Degree) •

Full-time rate = 8+ CUs

Common Questions How do I know if all requirements are completed?

The status of the Addendum and Proof of Entitlement shows on the Military Support page in your student portal. Check marks indicate that the requirement is satisfied. An open circle indicates that the requirement is not satisfied. Within 48 hours after both requirements are satisfied, the WGU Military Support team will review your file and contact your Enrollment Counselor to clear you for the next step in the enrollment process. When does the VA receive notification of my enrollment? We certify enrollment to the VA within 30 business days from the time that you accept the courses for your term. If your term starts June 1, 2019, and you accept courses on June 10th, verification of your enrollment will be submitted within 30 business days of June 10, 2019. We cannot notify the VA of your enrollment until the term starts and you accept the courses; nor can we certify a term prior to the start date. How do I see the pending VA credit on my account? To view the amount due on your account, log into your student portal and select "Make or View payment". The ACCOUNT BALANCE shows the full tuition charged. The AMOUNT DUE shows the actual balance of your account with all pending credit included. A negative amount due reflects the anticipated overpayment that will be created when all pending payments are received. Please keep in mind that payments do not post on your account until received. What options do I have when my benefit will not pay the full cost of my tuition and fees? If you have 100% entitlement for Chapter 33 benefits you do not need to make other arrangements to cover the tuition and fee costs unless you have less than six months of entitlement remaining. If your eligibility is 90% or less, we will apply a pending credit on your account for the payment amount we expect the VA to send to WGU. It is your responsibility to arrange payment of the balance of tuition prior to the start of each term. If you plan to receive federal financial aid funds—PELL and/or loans—it is your responsibility to apply for financial aid and submit all forms required by WGU’s Financial Aid Office. An out-of-pocket payment is only necessary if the combined amount of your financial aid award (or other third-party payment) and education benefits are less than the tuition and fee charges. When will the VA send payment? Processing time varies, but on average payments from the VA issue within three weeks from the day WGU reported your certification of enrollment. If the VA selects your certification for a manual review, payment may be closer to 4-6 weeks. *Please note: WGU cannot view the status of your payment. For payment inquiries, contact the VA National Education Call Center at 1-888-442-4551. You must allow 48 hours from our email notification for the certification to populate in the VA’s system.

Why were my financial aid payments—PELL and/or student loans—applied toward the tuition and fee costs on my account when I have a pending credit for VA funds ?

Although we may have a current proof of remaining entitlement for you on file, WGU has not received the payment yet and often will not receive payment until two to three months into the term. We place a pending credit for the expected VA payment amount on your account. You are not liable for any upfront payment to begin the term because of the pending credit. If financial aid funding for PELL and/or student loan(s) apply prior to the VA payment, only the amount covering your tuition and fee charges will remain on the account—any excess funds will be sent to you at that time. When WGU receives and applies the VA payment to your account and it creates a credit balance, the additional excess funds refund to you. Excess funds occur whenever the payments applied are greater than the charges on the account....
