FESTIVALS IN THE PHILIPPINES (Region I – Region V) REGION 1 - ILOCOS REGION 1. Pamulinawen Festival (LAOAG CITY, FEB 10) - floral and street dancing. Celebrates the feast of Saint William 2. Guling Guling Festival (PAOAY, Eve of Ash Wednesday/Holy Tuesday) - they’re marked with sign of the cross using pounded rice, not ash 3. Farmer’s Festival (BACARRA, May of 19 and 20) - Feast of St. Isidore the Labrador, patron of farmer and fisherfolk. 4. Tabako Festival (CANDON CITY) – held at the third or last week of March as a thanksgiving for a bountiful tobacco harvest. 5. Sinait Garlic (Bawang) festival (SINAIT, ILOCOS SUR) - Garlic Center of the North. May 1-3 showcasing talent, ingenuity and hardwork of Ilocanos. They have floats, parade of the product and street dancing.  6. Bangus Festival (DAGUPAN CITY, APRIL 3-31) – featuring multiple activities highlighting the Bangus  REGION 2 - CAGAYAN VALLEY 1. Aggao Nac Cagayan (June 23-29) - mark the establishment of the civil govt. of Cagayan in 1853 2. Bambati Festival (ILAGAN ISABELA, May 1-11) - mark the establishment of the provincial civil govt. also known as SCARECROW FESTIVAL 3. Dibang Festival (June 18-26) - founding anniversary of the civil govt of Batanes. Dibang means flying fish. 4. Panagdadapun Festival (CABARROGUIS, QURINO Sept 7-10) - Quirino’s Foundation Day 5. Panagyaman Festival (NUEVA VISCAYA PROVINCE May 19-24) - founding anniversary of Nueva Viscaya Province 6. Pav-vurulum Festival (TUGUEGARAO CITY, Aug 10-16) - patronal city fiesta CAR 1. Ulalim Festival (Kalinga Day) – annual celebration showcases the cultural dances and customatory traditions of the Kalinga Folk REGION 3 - CENTRAL LUZON 1. Zarsuela (BALER, AURORA Feb 19) - interplay of drama and dance, interesting form of theatre. Revolved around the main theme of moro-moro, christian and moslem conflict. 2. Aurora Day (BALER, AURORA Feb 14) - foundation of the province Aurora, on the very day of birth of the late Lady Aurora Quezon 3. Dinamulag Mango Festival (ZAMBALES) - revolves around rambles mangoes, sweetest mangoes in the PH archipelago

4. Mt. Pinatubo Trek (Nov 30) - began in 2004 to commemorate the world famous eruption of Mt. Pinatubo 5. Ina Poonbato (ZAMBALES January 24) - Feast day to worship Ina Poonbato 6. Binabay (MASINLOC, ZAMBALES) - zambales version of famous Ati-atihan. A war dance between christians and betas that uis performed on the feast day of San Andres, patron of the town of Masinloc. 7. Pawikan Festival – highlighted by a ceremonial releasing of pawikan hatchings in the blue waters off west Philippine sea. 8. Holy Cross of Wawa – have saved the life of an old woman drowning. Main feature of this fiesta celebration is the Pagoda which glides along the Boacaue River 9. Pulilan Carabao Festival – hundreds of work animals mostly carabaos are led on a parade in the streets, 10. Taong Putik Festival – they cover their bodies with mud and dry leaves. 11. Sinukwan Festival – relives the Kapampangan spririt with a week long calendar of cultural revivals. 12. Giant Lantern Festival. REGION 4A - CALABARZON 1. Higantes Festival (ANGONO, RIZAL Nov 22-23) - celebrated by people of Rizal. 14 feet giants dressed in cams chino for men, and kimono for women. 2. Pahiyas (LUCBAN, QUEZON May 15) - San Isidro Labrador REGION 4B - MIMAROPA 1. Bahaghari Festival - a colourful celebration with street dancing, parade of colourful floats, and a diff. Kind of Moriones Festival 2. Banana Festival (BACO, ORIENTAL MINDORO March 18) - abundance of Bananas. Showcases diff. Kinds of bananas like the señorita, latundan, lacatan, and saba. Coincide with the fiesta of patron St. Joseph. 3. Sulyog Festival (ORIENTAL MINDORO) - thank the almighty for the good harvest. “The centre of Organic Farming in Oriental Mindoro” 4. Moriones Festival (MARINDUQUE) - a long lenten event. Reenactment of the story of a roman soldier name Longinus. Morienes came from the word “morion” which means “mask” or “visor” 5. Bila-bila Festival (Dec 8) - Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Children from various schools in the town dress up in their best butterfly costumes for a parade. 6. Baragatan Festival (PALAWAN) - Baragatan is a cuyunon word which means to “gather” – aims to bring people together and to showcase what province has to offer. Happens in two weeks leading up to the province’s foundation day on June 23 7. Pista Y Ang Kagueban - a cuyuno dialect means “Pista ng kagubatan” the first celeb was on June 1991. The same years the United Nations declared the month of June as Environment Month. Through this feast, 2 million trees have been planted from 19912009.

8. Binary Festival (ROMBLON, 2nd week of January) - tribute to Sto. Nino de Romblon. REGION 5 - BICOL REGION Albay 1. Magayon festival - tries to relived depict the origin of Mayon 2. Ibalong Festival (LEGASPI CITY, 2nd week of October - a week long celebration commemorating the exploits of local heroes, the Ibalongs of the prehistoric Bicol 3. Sarung Banggi Festival (May 18—25) - showcase Albay’s religious and cultural activities, while Tabak Festival every last week of March highlights Tabaco City’s Foundation Anniversary. Camarines Norte 4. Pineapple Festival (June 15-22) - showcases the sweetest pineapple of Formosa variety, which is grown widely in various municipalities 5. Foundation day of the province (April 15) - featuring civic military parade, exhibits, agroindustrial fair, and sports festivals. 6. Pabirik Festival (January 26-Feb 2) - showcases the richness of the mining industry in the municipality of Paracale. 7. Palong Festival (May 13) - coincides with the feast day of the Black Nazarene. Highlights agro-industrial fair and street dancing as an expression of local folks’ gratitude for the presence of roosters in the locality 8. Sea Foods Festival (Oct 24) - features distinct varieties of fish in Basud 9. Boyoboy Festival (nov 8) - promotes the province’s agricultural products, specifically the Queen pineapple. A tourism event as it highlights industrial fairs, cultural presentations, beauty tilts’ and various events. 10. Busig-on Festival - based on the epic hero Busig-on who hails from Labo town and also of Bicolano values. Showcases of talent and skills in a competitive manner while showing the town’s places of interest and featuring the town’s unique historical values 11. Mercedes kadagatan Festival - fishermen’s celebration of thanksgiving for the blessings and bounty during the seafaring, fishing expedition and fish farming endeavours. The fishtival is also a moment of retrospect and recognition of Mother Nature for having endowed Mercedes with a gift of vast fishery resources, magnificent shorelines, and other aquatic potentials and the wise utilisation and preservation of ecological balance for ht attainment of environment dignity and beauty. Camarines Sur 12, Tinagba Festival (Feb 11 IRIGA CITY) - coincide with the feast day of our lady of lures and highlights a parade of bull carts that are laden fully by arrested crops 13, Boa-Boahan Festival (may12) - colourfully showcases thanksgiving and indigenous fertility rites 14. The Kaogma Festival (May 27) - coincides with the province’s foundation day. pays homage to fisher folks and farmers.

15. Peñafrancia fiesta (3rd week of sept) - weeklong celebration features military and civic parades, exhibits, regattas, a sports fest, beauty pageants, and cultural shows. Catanduanes 16. Kagharong - a native depiction of the Nativity scene held annually during Christmas season 17. Kalbaryo o calvary - commonly staged during Holy Week. A reenactment of the passion of christ’s way of the cross annually celebrated int he municipality of San Andres during holy Wednesday and good Friday 18. Padadyao sa tinapo - a native cultural presentation of street dancing held every October 24 to commemorate the province’s founding anniversary 19. Dinahit Festival - a prime festival in the municipality od Pandan celebrated every April. The word dinahit is a native sailing vessel used but the autronesians to travel across the ocean to reach pandan. 20. Catandungan festival - an annual celebration of the island province. Anniversary celebration and tribute to its founders. To commemorate the provinces’ independence from Albay. Masbate 1. Rodeo Filipino (march 18) - cattle raising is the trademark of the province as well as their major source of livelihood. 2. Corn Festival - a harvest festival among Moncadistas in San Ramon, Uson. Famous for the people dancing on glowing embers. Thanksgiving for the plentiful corn harvest. 3. Bantigue Festival - festival among Bantigue folk, right across the Masbate town proper. The barangay is known from preserved traditional folk dance “Fatigue Dance” famous for its boat makers. Sorsogon 1. Good Friday procession - the main streets is transformed into sea of bodies as barefoot devotees join the two-hour good Friday 2. Passion or Pasyon - all locality practiced pasyon. Both young and old sing the “passion of our dear lord” in Spanish language 3. Butanding festival - thanksgiving for the blessings that the butanding’s presence has given the people of Donsol. 4. Pili Festival - Pili is an indigenous crop of the sorsogon. Showcases the pili known as “The majestic tree” because of its myriad economic uses. 5.
