CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM Introduction Learning is the process which combines action, and reflection. There are many good things that the student can do in order to make themselves better learners. The first thing to do is to gain understanding of how someone learn, so that, they can maximize for strengthen there are adopt existing strategies and develop new strategies for themselves. Due of the way on maximizing their learning is by becoming aware of their learning style. Some student have one learning style which is most dominant for them while others have more than one area of different one in another type of environment. Learning as a psychological tool is important in achieving academic goals. Learning style is a way of responding to and using stimulating the contact of learning reiterates that learning is a science and yet aspects relating to how learners learn and how learning can be used in school and in adulthood are often relegated to a less important role today. resolve problems in new and future learning based in their previous learning experience. It is the ability to gain knowledge from one’s environment and to think abstractly. There are eight learning styles that can be use and adopt by the learners and these are visual learning style, aural learning style, verbal learning style, kinaesthetic learning style, logical learning style, social learning style and solitary learning style. These learning style represents represent different styles of the student on how they learn and it differentiates into specific modalities, rather than seeing this general ability. But in spite of the distinctions within the learning style, this is not to label the ability of a learner in adapting and gaining knowledge but its goal is to empower learner’s learning and knowledge. The term learning style speaks to the understanding that every learner learn differently. Technically, an individual learning style refers to the specific way in which the learner absorbs processes, comprehends and retained information. Individual learning style depend in cognitive, emotional and environmental factors as well as prior experience that can be developed through personality learning, information processing, multidimensional and social learning. The review of literature provided background information needed in this study. Learning is the process of acquiring new or modifying existing knowledge, behaviors, skills, values or preferences. The ability to learn is possessed by humans, some learning is immediate induced by a single event, but much skill and knowledge accumulates from repeated experiences. The changes induced by learning often last a lifetime, and it is hard to distinguish learned material that seems to be lost from that which cannot be retrieved (Mayer, 2001). According to Tahan et. al (2016) learning is considered as the axis of the activities of all educational and entrepreneur based institutions. Learning styles of students as on of the factors effective in learning and academic progress has always been taken into consideration. By identifying the learning style of individuals each style can be more appropriate teaching method by teachers and also a more correct method of learning by learners. According to Clark et. al (2004), learning styles as a psychological tool in education has often been downplayed in the achievement of academic goals, learning style is a way of responding to and using stimulating the Learning Styles and Class Participation of Grade 11 Academic Track Students in Mathematics Course

contact of learning reiterates that learning is a science and yet aspects relating to how learners learn and how learning can be used in school, beyond school and in adulthood are often relegated to a less important role today. Also it affirms the fact that effective learning will provide the learner with skills to resolve problems in new and future learning based in their previous learning experience. Lucas et. al (2007), posit that learning or thinking styles referred to the preferred way that individuals processes information and also describe a person's typical made of thinking, remembering or problem solving. This implies that learning style are the preferences students have in processing new information or strategies that are consistently adopted by them to learn. Thus, students make deliberate attempt to choose how they intend to process whatever they are thought. According to Reid et.al (2005), a learner could be a sensory or perceptual learner, cognitive learner and effective / temperant learner. It claims that students who learn from an approach compatible with their preferred learning style experience great academic achievement and have a more positive attitude towards learning. conscious effort to adapt to others, that the students’ academic performance will be affected. In view of this, they purpose that learning styles should be points along a confirmium. This means that learning style should be straight jacket but a choice which is mostly influenced by the task at hand or the learner’s environment. Learning or thinking styles referred to the preferred many of individual processes information and also describes a person's typical mode of thinking, remembering or problem solving there are several perspectives about learning - thinking styles. It refers to the raviation in someone's ability to accumulate as well as assimilate information. Basically, the learning style is the method that best allows someone and uses the knowledge in specific manner. On which there are several perspective about learning and thinking styles. Two of which are the sensory preferences and the global analytic continuum. Sensory and non - sensory preferences states that individuals tends to gravitate toward one or two types of sensory and non-sensory input and maintain dominance in one of the following types namely, visual, aural, auditory, kineasthetic, logical, social and solitary learners.
