Introduction
Summarize the individual's background you selected from the list and provide appropriate and necessary contextualizing information. Dennis Rader was a serial killer who preyed on the community of Wichita, Kansas for nearly 30 years. Dennis Rader was self named the “BTK Killer,” meaning bind, torture, and kill. Dennis Rader was described as a family man who was active in his church up until his arrest. Dennis Rader is credited with killing at least ten people, beginning in 1974. Dennis Rader was described as rude and arrogant but kept his murders a secret for 30 years. Dennis Rader was unhappy with news coverage on his killings, which led him to correspond with media and law enforcement. Upon capture, Dennis Rader confessed to the killings, taking credit for his work. (Ono, D., 2005)

What distinguishes the individual as being a psychopath or sociopath instead of the alternative? Dennis Rader was a psychopath. He displayed a lack of emotional connection, empathy, and disregard for rules or laws. Dennis Rader’s attacks were carefully planned and took him along time to stalk, as he became obsessed with his victims. Dennis Rader’s attacks appeared to come from compulsiveness instead of a fit of rage as a sociopath would. Dennis Rader was a master chameleon as he blended in with society for decades after his first attack. Dennis Rader was a serial killer who became president of his church, and a leader in the local Boy Scout Troop. His narcissism is what led to his capture. Dennis Rader wanted “anonymously” share his
