WBC: 4.5-11 (high=leukocytosis & low=leukopenia) Neutrophils: 2500-800 (low= neutropenia) high amount of immature neutrophils means a very serious infection ESR: erythrocyte sedimentation rate; 20 is normal level CRP: c-reactive protein is an indicator of inflammation in the body; normal level is below 3 Differential WBC: tells us how much of each kind of WBC is present. Neutrophils= 55-75%, Lymphocytes: 20-40%, monocytes: 2-8%, eosinophils 1-4%, basophils 0.5-1% Neutrophils: first to neutralize the infection (elevation indicates acute infection) Lymphocytes: increased when there is an bacterial or viral infection or when leukemia or lymphoma Monocytes: elevated with bacterial infection or TB Eosinophils: elevated w/ allergic reactions and parasite infections Basophils: elevated w. allergic reactions (histamine) Thrombocytopenia: low platelet count (150,000-350,000)
