Project Plan Week 5 (24 April 2017 – 28 April 2017) In week 5, the four of us, mainly consisting of Joel, Vanessa, Hui Ru, Sally came together to form a group called 3F1Mac.We had a voting on who should be our group leader and we went with majority vote. Vanessa got the most votes so she was nominated as our group leader. During tutorial class, we had a discussion on which field should we select for our assignment and we came to an agreement that we will be focusing on the food industry. Week 6 (1 May 2017 – 5 May 2017) In week 6, we had a group discussion on the topic of our assignment. Each of us listed out a few companies that came to mind. After some consideration among a few companies, our group decided to do research on McDonald’s which is a popular fast food restaurant known all over the world. Then, Vanessa allocated task for every member. Each of us looked up for relevant information about McDonald’s and we shared the information we got through WhatsApp. Week 7 (8 May 2017 – 12 May 2017) In week 7, we did a research on the hardware, software and communications used by McDonald’s. During tutorial class, we proposed our ideas to Ms.Hephi, our lecturer to let her check the information we gathered. Mid-Semester Assessment Week (15 May 2017 – 19 May 2017) During the Mid-Semester week, we did not do any research for our assignment because we planned to focus entirely on our mid-semester tests. Therefore, our group work is put on hold. Our discussion is held again right after we are done with our mid-semester tests. Week 8 (22 May 2017 – 26 May 2017) In week 8, we had a discussion in the library on how to explain the hardware, software and communications used my McDonald's. After that, we had a brainstorming session on 3F1Mac

the new technologies that can be recommended to McDonald’s. Our group came up with 4 new technologies for McDonald’s. Week 9 (29 May 2017 – 2 May 2017 In week 9, every member searched up extra information for hardware, software and communications. Our group added new information to each category and further elaborated the points. We started filling in information for our IT report. Week 10 (5 June 2017 – 9 June 2017) In week 10, we meet up during our lunch break to do the cover page, introduction of the company, project plan, list of tables, list of figures, table of contents and conclusion for our report. We finished our report on that day. We checked through the report a few times to make sure that it is the complete version. Week 11 (12 June 2017 – 16 June 2017) In week 11, we used our time in tutorial class to do the presentation slides for our IT group presentation. We put in relevant information and pictures of the selected company into the PowerPoint slides. After that, we spent time practicing for the presentation in the library. Week 12 (19 June 2017 – 23 June 2017) In week 12, we had our group presentation in class. Before 12 noon, Vanessa submitted the softcopy of our report to Safe Assign.

Introduction McDonald’s Corporation is taking the lead on becoming the world’s largest foodservice retailing chains that prepares and serves a variety of food and drinks. It is indeed one of the world’s famous fast food brands that constantly top in numerous brand surveys. McDonald’s products are sold at various affordable prices. McDonald’s serve almost 69 million customers

every day in more than 100 countries. North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, and the Middle East and Africa (APMEA) are places where the company operated. The headquarters of the company is located at Oak Brook, Illinois. McDonald’s franchise restaurants are operated all around the world. In December 31, 2015, the company employs 420,000 people and operates 36,525 restaurants in 119 countries, 6,444 of which are company-operated and 30,081 are franchised and licensed. Stephen J. Easterbrook have been the President, Chief Executive Officer and Director at McDonald's since 2015. Dating back to 1940, two brothers, Dick and Mac McDonald opened a hamburger restaurant in California under the name of McDonald’s Bar-B-Que. In the early 1948, the restaurant shuts down for some alterations for a duration of 3 months and re-opens in the late 1948 which became a self-service-drive-in restaurant. By then, the 100 McDonald’s restaurants are operating at 1959 and 500 restaurants are operating at 1963. The company was publicised in 1965 and the shares of it are listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In 1967, McDonald’s’ first international restaurants are set up in Canada and Puerto Rico. The local taste and preferences across various geographic locations are taken into consideration in the development of the company’s restaurants’

fries, salads, oatmeal, shakes, desserts, sundaes, soft serve cones, and pies. It also serves soft drinks, coffee and other beverages. In the US and many other international restaurants also offer a menu specifically for breakfast. The breakfast menu includes the serving of food products such as muffins, biscuits, hotcakes, and bagel sandwiches. McDonald's products are marketed under a broad range of brand names that include Big Mac, Filet-O-Fish, Chicken McNuggets, McFlurry, McMuffin, McGriddles, and McCafe.

M G5 Wireless Drive-Thru Headset is a rechargeable wireless headset. Enhanced mic technology improves the digital sound quality due to sound clarity being improved and and background noises are being reduced when taking orders. This headset have increased durability, lighter weight, enhanced comfort, backward-compatibility and able to be repaired in stores. McDonald’s uses this to listen to drive-thru customers’ orders more clearly. 2. NCR Accuview Order Confirmation Board

NCR Accuview Order Confirmation Board helps improve accuracy of orders by providing customers with a list of items they’ve ordered together with the price. This 3F1Mac

can also decrease expensive drive-thru errors made. NCR Accuview Order Confirmation Board can also help to decrease theft. Savvy customers know how much they should pay when they finalize their orders and the order totals are made visible to them. The board uses an LED backlit display that reduces the consumption of energy and increases the device’s lifespan. Besides that, information can be delivered by the board at any weather on a sunlight-readable LCD screen and provide tools to update images of products and solve technological issues. McDonald’s uses this to display and show drive-thru customers’ their orders. This is to prevent serving the wrong food orders and to ensure customer satisfaction. 3. Delphi’s Fast Track Drive-Thru Timer

Delphi’s Fast Track® Drive-Thru Timer provides the important information needed at the exact time to optimize the speed of drive-thru service. Detailed vehicle timing information is displayed on high resolution displays of Fast Track Drive-Thru Timing System. It has a dashboard of key information which is customizable to optimize every car. 12 user-friendly templates are available which ease the customization of the displays onsite. When goals have been exceeded or higher level of performance is needed, multi-colour graphs and visual indicators are provided by The Fast Track Drive-Thru Information System. The average service times and metric of other key performances is also shown to encourage and reward the teams on their results. McDonald’s uses this to keep track of their service speed in order to service customer more efficiently.

The PAR POS printer is durable with lever-free paper loading and process receipt at a high speed up to 250mm per second. It has a durable design with quality print resolution and it is compact. The Par Cash Drawer is used to ease transaction process. It has robust latch mechanism with various security level and flexible storage space which maximizes efficiency. McDonald’s uses PAR POS printer to print out receipts fast and clear and uses the Par Cash Drawer to keep all cash received save in the drawers.

Maxtel Software provides services in three aspects, which includes audit, support contracts, and training. For Audit, Maxtel’s audit service makes sure that McDonald’s gains the most for investing in Maxtel Software. For support contracts, Maxtel has a team of support consultants with certified experience that can provide valuable information and help to solve the problems rapidly so that the managers can focus more on running the business. Maxtel ensures that McDonald’s receive the best service by providing all the support options, which comes with a service level agreement. For training, Maxtel’s consultants with experience in restaurant management, provide a comprehensive training for the McDonald’s staff. 2. Microsoft Windows XP

Microsoft Windows XP is the software’s basic component. McDonald’s uses Microsoft 2005. Windows modified a particular component version to provide multiple services including taking orders and allowing customers to pay in various forms. OLAP, which is also known as online analytical processing, is a software that helps McDonald’s to improve in decision making. McDonald’s use OLAP to set an analytical date for the price spent to supply the materials and look for more efficient methods to improve profitability. McDonald’s uses a data warehouse and data marts. Data warehouse is a logical collection of information from various databases. Data marts are used by particular departments to filter and obtain extra specific information. 4. Scala Digital Signage Software

McDonald’s scala digital signage menu board brings customer experience to a higher standard with its dynamic and engaging messaging. Scala’s menu board makes changes to the offerings by location. Scala digital signage is a cost efficient method to relay relevant information to customers. 3F1Mac

Communication Capabilities 1. E-mail E-mail stands for electronic mail. It means messages that are sent by electronic means from one user to another user through a network. Email is one of the most popular business communication tool because it is very effective. It is not expensive because it needs only a stable Internet connection in order to communicate with other users. It is used to inform customers about the latest events and news. McDonald’s uses e-mail to provide their customers with the latest information about offers on their products. Customers can subscribe to McDonald’s e-mail to keep track of McDonald’s activities. Customers can always send their feedbacks on a visit to a specific restaurant to McDonald’s through e-mail. 2. Intranet webpage for staffs

An intranet is a private, safe network that only allows staffs from an organisation to access it. This type of network is usually used within a company. Intranet uses internet protocols such as HTTP and IP. The function of an intranet is to allow staffs to share information of company and resources among themselves. It is used to act as a communication system between CEO and staffs. It keeps employee updated with the latest news and make them stay connected. McDonald’s has an intranet webpage called “Sauces” where employees can easily access to important information including policies, benefits and company updates.

A website refers to a collection of web pages and documents which can be accessed through a web browser such as Firefox and Internet Explorer. Every website has a special web address. It allows users to find information they need and want. McDonald’s has their own website. Customers can access to it to obtain any latest news about McDonald’s. They can sign up to become members on McDonald’s website to get special promotions. 4. McDonald Malaysia Customer Service Number Customer service refers to the help given by a company to their customers who purchase their products or services. It allows users to contact the company directly. McDonald’s provides a customer service number for customers to contact them if they have any questions that they want to know more about McDonald’s. McDonald’s encourage their customers to tell them about their experience whenever they visit McDonald’s. When calling this number, customers can make complaints if they are not happy with the service or the food.

New Technologies 1. Order It Kiosk

The “Order It” Kiosk is an ATM machine where customers can key in their ID and place an order through the machine. Their IDs will have their payment details to complete the payment for their orders. Ingredients are put in by staff before any orders and the machine will be able to put together burgers, dispense out drinks and French fries in their holders, and give out packed up orders such as pie and porridge. Touch screen LCDs will be available for customers to scroll through menu and promotions, and pick their orders. Once they have placed their orders, the kiosks will start making the orders with the ingredients placed inside the machine and place the orders on the tray once it is done.
