There are many examples that could be used to demonstrate a comprehensive intervention model, for instance a few are, pain management programs, hospice programs, and even rehab programs, both inpatient and outpatient alike. How is a pain management program considering a comprehensive intervention model you may ask, well its quite simple. For pain management to work, you have to combine all the treatments for that individual person’s pain, therefore it becomes personalized and comprehensive. As for Hospice programs, when you or someone you love enters hospice, more doors and care are opened to this person, hence creating a personalized comprehensive plan, between each group helping this person. Lastly, when it comes to Rehabilitation, multiple health habits are being delt with, by different people, it could be mental health, drug addiction, physical therapy and even a combination, each rehabilitation program, can be personalized. “Comprehensive interventions provide the best quality of care, but they tend to be rather expensive. Many hospitals have already discontinued their pain management centers, due to lack of funding. (Taylor, 2015) with this being said, Yes comprehensive interventions are the best you can receive, but for them to work their needs to be a balance to cost effectiveness and treatment effectiveness. With mounting pressures to contain spending and over all costs, it had also promoted certain intervention development, these interventions have pros and cons, most interventions are limited in time and are symptom focused not overall focus. They also tend to be outpatient care, while there is a certain appeal to outpatient care, there have been times where it doesn’t work.

Honestly, I think promoting comprehensive interventions are a great thing, we just need to worry about a cost-effective way to promote them, as not all hospitals or clinics get the same amount of funding and not everyone has health insurance or the best insurance. There have been cases in which programs have had to shut down due to the high prices. In module six of this class, we learned about coping with chronic and life-threatening illness and how the patients and loved ones alike deal with this process and also about the five stages of grief. These patients and their loves ones are physically and mentally exhausted. I do believe that promoting comprehensive interventions would be exponentially good for both them and their loved ones. We would just need to focus again on making it cost effective.
